I thought the occasion was an eclipse ending a little after 10 pm here.  Our local meteorologists have been talking about it.  Didn't mention a word about a red moon.

From my local news station:

Look up tonight! You won't want to miss the 'super flower blood moon.'

First off, what’s a "blood moon?"

When there’s a total lunar eclipse, the sunlight gets reflected and refracted through the earth’s atmosphere in such a way that it gives the moon a reddish hue.

So, why is it called the "super flower blood moon?"

It's called a super moon because the moon is at the closest point to Earth in its orbit, so it will look bigger and brighter than normal.

It's called a flower moon because that is the name given to the May full moon due to the country being in the heart of spring.

We are totally socked in with rain and clouds!  Just went out and checked the moon's location with sky view....can't see the moon at all for the heavy cloud cover.

@Jk9 - Same where I am.  Typical - any special celestial event, we get horrible weather and cloud cover.  We don't even bother to look anymore.

Watching it as we speak. Beautiful and eerie. It's total now and has taken on the reddish hue   Clear night in the Tampa Bay area
