The mother daughter Caribbean cruise that my daughter was taking me on, is a bust. We were to leave this coming Saturday. I have come down with Covid. Symptoms began Monday. Worsened yesterday and today. I had planned to go get my required pre cruise Covid test tomorrow. Based on my symptoms and an uneasy feeling, I decided to use a home test today. The thing lit up like a Christmas tree the instant the solution touched the test strip.
Darcy and I FaceTimed and cried together. She is taking a close friend in my place. She paid for the entire cruise and I paid for two fun shore excursions. She even offered to reimburse me the $300+ dollars. I said of course not! You and your bestie have a ball!
Since Darcy lives in Thailand I only get to see her about once a year.
I've been fully vaxxed and boostered. So I've continued to live my life normally. Who knows where I picked this up. My husband so far has no signs or symptoms and went today for a test, which was negative.
Now I have to start unpacking.
My planned trip to Thailand in December of 2021 had to be cancelled because of the long quarantine requirements there.
thanks for reading and "listening".

Well that is a drag and I'm sorry you are sick but you are doing the right thing and hopefully there will be another time for a cruise. But think if you were not vaxxed and boosted---could be so much worse. I am resigned to the fact that we all will probably get covid no matter how careful we are--the nature of that awful beast. But this is the new normal. Hope you and your hubby will not suffer too much.

I am very sorry to hear about that. So disappointing. I hope your symptoms will be mild and that you will be better soon.

@wagirl Thank you. I am still kind of in shock. Over two years with the stupid virus and I never caught it. Yes you are probably right, it could be worse. I'm 71 and I guess that automatically qualifies me as a higher risk

@fairydogmother - I am so sorry. Around here it's spreading. DD has it right now; so does her coworker. She was trying to be so careful because her dad is diabetic. We are going on a family vacation next week. DS flies in a few days from now. For the first time in a long time, since our children were in college, they can both come and stay the whole time.
It was so nice of you to let your DD take a good friend. She will miss you, but she will have a different special time with her friend. I hope you feel better, and I hope you and your DD can look forward to another special mother/daughter time together.

@fairydogmother What a disappointment! I'm so sorry this happened to you. I know the virus is just going wild here. I hope you can shake this quickly, and I'm so sorry it's hitting you hard. Try to find something to treat yourself while you are stuck at home.

@beach-mom Thanks for your very kind words. I hope your daughter recovers quickly.

@Flyer98 Thanks. Here in my Florida county, Covid is spiking again as it is elsewhere. Last week was my birthday. We went to the casino that night and to Busch Gardens the next day. Quite likely I picked it up from one of those places.

I'm so sorry! That just stinks. I do hope you're better soon and hope that you and your daughter can plan a rain check trip.
