The reality is that she was dealing with significant mental health issues. Many people experience a divorce, even one involving a spouse who remarries someone younger, and they do not respond with violence. Her actions were not a typical reaction to those circumstances, they were the result of underlying psychological instability that didn’t seem to be managed.

She never seemed to have any remorse for her actions. BTW, if you havent seen the TV movies about this, Meredith Baxter does a fab job as Betty.

@jlkz - She became a celebrity when she murdered her ex-husband and his wife.

It was reported she supported him while he went through medical school. In the end, he had an affair, divorced her, got everything including the children leaving her with nothing. She snapped.

There were several tv movies and books made about her and her life.
