No - he can die behind bars.

Both of his Kids are gone.  Ruth Madoff stopped visiting him.

He can stay where he is at.

What he did is inexcusable but most of those who lost money were complicit and naive in believing the unbelievable return promised on their investments. Each of us are free to make choices and responsible for those choices.

I see nothing to be gained in keeping him in prison at taxpayer's expense.

His attorney says he'll "live with a friend" and" support himself on SS and Medicare", so taxpayers would still be supporting him and his medical care.

Re: Bernie Madoff Terminally Ill Seeks Compassionate Release

These types of release aren't about the prisoners, they are about the burden of a seriously or terminally ill patient on the prison Healthcare system.  In this case, he's n elderly patient on dialysis who requires a bunch of medications and a special diet and medical monitoring.  Prisons are not substitutes for hospitals, they are not equipped to deal with that.

He wants to spend time explaining his actions to his grandchildren...well they can visit him if they choose.I don’t think he should receive special considerations now that he isn’t well as he has access to all of the care he needs right where he deserves to be.

Wow. The vitriol here is surprising.  (eta...well, maybe not.)

It was money. People bought into something without knowing enough. It was “too good to be true” and they went in anyway.

His sentence is 150 years.  Over money. People kill people and get a tenth of that.

I don’t know that he should be released.  I don’t know that he should have been sentenced to 150 years.

Over money.

Re: Bernie Madoff Terminally Ill Seeks Compassionate Release

I have mixed feelings.  I guess if it is common practice to give prisoners "compassionate releases" then he should get one too.  But if it is something only done occasionally...and for "famous" or wealthy inmates...then no.

I never thought about how inmates are handled with terminal illnesses.  Do they get hospice care?  Do they stay in their facility, just move to a medical part of the prison (if there even is one)?  Do they send them to "hospice houses"?

He should be treated as any other inmate would.

@KingstonsMom  Like taxpayers are supporting many here?

Yes, but we're not criminals serving life in prison, whining to get out for medical reasons.
