Amazon is not the cheapest game in town for sure. They use algorithms just like the next company. I don't think they price match either. If I find some items elsewhere, I will purchase them elsewhere if they have free shipping. If the next place has a lower price but charges me shipping, you guessed it, I'm getting it from Amazon. I go between Amazon and Walmart for certain items. I can get pantry staples from Walmart too. I just have to spend 35.00 to qualify for two day shipping or in some cases next day shipping.

I forgot to mention that the best thing about Prime for me is that I never pay for it. It's always one of my birthday gifts from my children and my grandson.

Lots of info here. It's a personal decision whether it would be worth it.

For me, it really is. Not only for all the free shipping (I pretty much buy anything I don't get at the grocery store at Amazon). Sometimes I check out shows/movies on Prime, too, so that's nice.

One thing, also, is that if you have the credit card you get 5% back each month for money spent at Amazon and 2% and 1% for other entities. I'm sorry I don't recall the specifics about those discounts.

But the point I wanted to make is that I get WAY more back on my card over the period of a year than what it costs me for Prime. I think that's something that some might not notice. I didn't really think about it for a long time until it dawned on me one day and I looked at what I was getting back each month and I was really surprised how it added up.

If you don't do much with Amazon, of course, it probably wouldn't be worth it. The price has gone up so much over the years. I remember first getting it for $59 and then $79, and then it went up to $99. Now it's around $120 or $130, I think but, still, it costs me much less than what I get back not to even mention the savings on prices. So many things I buy cost more, and sometimes much more, at other venues.

@chickenbutt There are two choices, an Amazon Visa or an Amazon store card which can only be used at Amazon and Whole Foods. Both give 5% back on Amazon purchases

@coffee drinker My DIL added us to her Amazon Prime. Each year when it comes up for renewal, we pay for half. I noticed she also has a couple other people on her Prime account - her mother, her father, her church. (hmmm... I wonder if THEY'RE all paying) Anyway, it works out for us because it's SO easy to find absolutely ANYTHING that you might drive around to many stores to find!!! At our ages (72/74), we'll take convenience.

Do you get the impression (yes, I'm a suspicious sort) that she's charging everybody half so she's making out on the deal? I think I'd be hacked off about that, but that's just me.

@spent2muchdo you live in the same household? In order to share your Prime Benefits with others, they must reside in the same household. I can't share my Prime benefits with my son in another household. We shared it before he moved out though.

Otherwise, you can shop under one another's accounts if they give you that information to log on with and shop.

Not a comment on the poster because I don't know her situation, but I have heard about a lot of people who actually are sharing their Prime benefits with people outside their household and I'm convinced that that is one BIG reason that the price keeps going up for the rest of us.
