I think the biggest risk of putting your e-mail in a public forum is just that you might get overwhelmed with spam (junk emails.)

My hubby is retired cop. My son sold a laptop and met the buyer at a Burger King. He asked to see it and as soon as he held it he ran with it! He was fast and knew where he was going. He was chased by a cop and threw the computer and took off. The computer was ruined. Lesson learned! Police Departments let you sell high priced items out of their lobbies in some towns now.
Good idea to seek out a safe place for exchanges. I know my local government center has a place in the parking lot for exchanges where there is video recording.

Stop to think, that person might be a seriel killer, or a robber, I can't believe you asked that question. It is a drug filled world out there. People are broke now also. Good way to get robbed.
Have you ever googled your address? If not, DO IT NOW! You will be surprised what is on the internet about you.
I have one email for business only and one for browing or any other need. My business email gets very little spam. Nobody sees it that matters. My other one will have 20-50 junk emails a night.

I was just about to Post the same thing. In my City, the Police Department lets you use their address as a pickup. Most people don't know the PD's address so if they are legit and GPS sends them to the address, they will come in, but if they are not legit, they run.

I think a fake email address is always necessary. Many sites won't let you enter without your email, and you will then be bombarded with sales and junk emails and calls. All they need is one piece of your personal info and they can fill in all the rest. Google your own name and you will be shocked what you find!

I stay off of Twitter, etc. I am on FB only to see my faraway grandkids. Zero personal info on my profile.

Oh that is horrible to hear he went through something like that! I never knew you could exchange things with the buyer in a police dept lobby; doubtful in our big city...but you would know right away if the buyer didn't show up.

@Junebug54 wrote:You can get killed or robbed without anyone ever knowing your address. Your theory of thinking is ridulous...Just because they know your address doesn't mean they will come and rob or kill you... How do you ever ordered anything without giving your address? I'm pretty sure robbers or killers aren't checking out people on line to get their address. Sad you live in such fear.
@Junebug54 What??? I do not live in fear. I am just cautious. I have family in law and most what I do is advice from them. How do I order anything??? I do order but that is totally different. I am talking about giving your address to a stranger. Not a business.

@Zhills I have. Giving a fake email is one thing, giving your address to a stranger is another.

I've mentioned before that I have an Etsy shop. Currently it's been in vacation mode since last holiday season due to personal reasons but I've had it since 2008 and before that I sold on Ebay.
Along with my name & photo one can easily see my email & address when someone makes a purchase. I never had a problem....
