I always have a sweet snack immediately after dinnerl   It might be an Enlightened icecream bar, a couple of cookies, or  some butter toffee pretzels.  If I don't end my day with a sweet, I feel "cheated!"

Thinking about my childhood and what at the time I assumed was common, like bedtime snacks, has me wondering.

I still have ice cream before I go to bed, do you have a bedtime snack?

Never. As a Type 1 diabetic for 54 years, every morsel I eat has to be counted and I need insulin to cover it.

I envy you @occasionalrain that you can eat ice cream.🍨 I have insulin resistance now so I cannot even eat fruit anymore let alone sweets.

Aw gee whiz...my mom seriously BELIEVED I needed an "after school snack"... like a whole box of cookies.    I was called "Tilly Two Ton" by the 8th grade(!)

No, I don't.  Bedtime snacks are a sure fire way to raise blood sugar and cortisol levels, leading to hormone disruptions, metabolism issues, poor sleep, weight gain, diabetes.

That must discouraging.

Many of us take for granted the everyday advantages we have, never giving a thought to those who haven't the same. Thank you for the reminder.

Luckily, even when I was overweight. I am not hungry in the evening. If I have ice cream or chocolate, it's directly after a meal.

@Desertdi

Your mother meant well, but an apple would have been kinder.

Very nice of you to say @occasionalrain but I have been very blessed in life with a wonderful husband and kids. My BIL also had diabetes and died 23 years ago. God blessed me that I am still on the planet.😊
