Re: 🐦 Beautiful Bird Eastern Phoebe 🐦

[ Edited ]

Years ago I lived on a large wooded lot on a lake in a house we had built with cedar shakes all over the exterior. In the mornings we started to hear the tap-tap-tap of a woodpecker outside. That bird pecked numerous small holes on the back of our house.

The woodpecker was a protected species. So, my husband hung 2 aluminum pie plates next to each other in a tree behind the house that would make noise from the wind clanging them together to scare the woodpecker away. When that didn't work, he hung a fake owl in the tree. Then unrelated he had a few small fires he made of dead leaves & brush, & the woodpecker left - maybe due to the smoke??

It cost a lot of $ to have our back exterior on the house redone with cedar shakes.

@cheriere  what precious pictures and sweet little babies!  You are blessed to have the beautiful nature so close to your home!

About a month ago we had a birds nest on the side of our house.  I kept an eye on them and moved one of the bird feeders we have closer for the Mama. Last week they all moved away but I told DH to leave their nest there.  Maybe more will move it!

Good luck on your drive tomorrow, praying for your safety!💞

@Nightowlz  I love your woodpecker story! I'm sure the little bird was scared..

@cheriere did you ever get the Merlin app installed and working?

No, I still haven't gotten around to getting it yet.  Since I'll have good service in Nashville tomorrow I'll try to download it.  I'm so far out in the country here, a lot of times apps don't install properly.

My iPhone however was able to confirm my hunch on this bird and help with identifying.

Thank you so much for such a nice comment and a wonderful story.  I wondered if you were scared of the woodpecker.  I hear them every morning and would love to get some pics, but I'm unsure how that would go lol.

Im so happy you liked the pictures.  I'd been waiting for the babies to get big enough to show up in a photo lol.

Thank you so much for your well wishes while I'm traveling to and fro the dr tomorrow.❤️  I'm already nervous about the traffic.

She looks familiar! How did you find out her name?

I wasn't scared. Didn't think about the woodpecker coming after me. It's amazing how they cling to the trees.

There are 2 different type in the tree we keep seeing them in.

This one had the little bird caught in the hole.

Red-bellied Woodpecker | Audubon Field Guide

This is the other woodpecker we have seen. It's making hole above the other woodpecker.

I used an app on my iPhone to confirm the species after I'd taken some pictures.  I love being able to look them up now.❤️

Wow!  Both of those woodpeckers are really pretty.  I'd love to know what type we have living in the trees here.  I think this might be my next stakeout lol.❤️
