@RainCityWoman wrote:It wouldn't matter what the couple did. Britain has a harsh media and a judgmental public. They resent the royals, but given the option, they want to keep them in the manner they have been accustomed. Meghan has two things working against her in that society: she's American and she's mixed race, both points of derision for many in the country. Before Diana and Fergie, they ripped Margaret apart, and princess Anne took her share of abuse as well. They abhored Wallis Simpson, even though SHE was NOT the one who was a Nazi sympathizer. I admire Harry and Meghan for wanting to generate income on their own and for still doing their duties to the royal family as well. They want to raise their child with a less insular view of life as well. How dare them want what they think is best for their child.
@RainCityWoman I guess I've missed any references they've made re: what they want for their child. But so far it looks like not knowing half of his family might be part of it.

Isn't it somewhat odd that, after being away for six weeks, both she and the baby wouldn't have returned and remained in the UK with Harry? Why keep Archie away from Harry's family? What possible reason could there be?

But whether he likes it or not, he is part of English royalty and will always be tied to that line. I do think it is a bit questionable to want to be dislodged from the royal family and required functions, but still want to be attached to the royal finances. Am not sure that formula will work....
@corita IF what I read today is true it is all a crock anyway. I read that they have turned back 5 percent of their income, but 95 percent comes from income from Charles earnings from his royal titled holdings.
So, oh we're going to become financially independent, step away from royal duties but sop up the remaining 95 percent that DOES come from Charles' earnings as Duke? Well what a sacrifice! Still living in the house that was fixed up for 'ya?

With all this royal reporting that annoying ear worm song "I'mmm never gonna be royaaaal" won't leave my head.

As for how all this rolls out, at some point the royal's decision on these two will be made public. I expect Meghan and Harry will have a 'show of their own' if they aren't staisfied with the outcome...
Unfortunate, while yeseterday we were permited some level of discussion about this situation and only questionable posts were being edited, I see today's earlier thread has been summarily dismissed and eradicated... Really a shame but not unexpected, considering the source... I think I'm done posting on these threads. It's a waste of time to give considered thought to posting comments only to see them disposed of based on whim and a rather restrictive moderating style... It's been nice chatting with you all...

@stevieb I agree with your comments seems like any level of interesting discussion is soon eradicated such a shame.

I was surprised to come back and see the earlier thread gone. I don't know what got it taken down. And it WAS taken down, right? Not just locked.
I agree with @stevieb . It's a waste of time to post when threads are abruptly terminated.
I don't have any time to waste. See ya.

Seems to me the firm is a business. Sometimes we have things in our job that we do or do not want to do. You either just go along, or you negotiate an agreement that both parties can live with. If that can't be reached then the final option is to quit. I think the same is true for Harry. It's all up to the Queen and Harry. My opinion is if he doesn't want to do the Royal job then he shouldn't get paid.

@esmerelda @stevieb @dulwich The last time I was on, (few hours back), that thread was humming along nicely; what happened? AND to have it completely removed! Why not simply lock it?
Ah well. It's so interesting to hear what people here have to say and then have family and friends share their thoughts back home. For those who care, Harry is being raked through the coals for his whining. Whatever does happen, the respect for him is pretty much gone if you listen to pub and shop talk. Papers report what will sell papers; people talking in the shops, the village square, the pubs, the tube, over a cuppa....THAT'S where you find out what they're really thinking.
Carry on!

Why do some people here throw around Oprah, Gayle King, and any other name they read in the countless articles since this happened as if they're factually accurate? These articles are clickbait designed to generate page views.
