Oooh, I love the dancing bird and the bathing owl. I don't know what it is about a bathing bird, I could watch them all day {#emotions_dlg.wub}

The Flying Lesson

FLYING LESSONS???? {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

Hi Birding Friends, I sure wish I had a bit of the energy that the ducklings above have. We had some short lived thunderstorms move through here today and we did get some needed rain. It's now sunny and muggy. I feel so lethargic at times when it's so sultry outside. Just want to nap, which I did for about 20 min. till one GS informed me he was out of clean socks. He loves to bike ride, lately, and then when he gets home, the socks come off and if he goes biking again later, he gets out more socks. I bet there are 15 to 20 pairs of socks in the load of laundry, I just started, and I just did socks on Thurs.

i just looked into the backyard and there's a squirrel on the patio screens, with his tail whipping back and forth like crazy. His tail looks like a windmill. Guess he's wanting me to come out an toss peanuts up into the tree. I picked up 6 bags of peanuts yesterday at the produce stand down the road. I need to pick up some mixed seed birdseed and mix it with the black oil sunflower and safflower seed. I add shelled peanuts and whole peanuts(in the shell) to it. I make a bucketful of it to save time each day. The birds seem to like the mix, as I have to refill the feeder everyday and even more often than that at times. I also throw in a handful of thistle seed now and then to use up the bag DS bought. I think he made a mistake when he bought it as he doesn't have many finches and there are no thistle feeders here either.

Guess I'll be heading to Publix to pick up a few things and then I get to fold clothes and match up socks.{#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

Kind of glad I am not at home in St. Louis County due to the rioting and looting going on. Some of the vandalism and looting is about 2 miles from my home. Scary! My brother leaves work at Boeing early to check on things at home and just "be there". Crazy world, and getting crazier it seems. Not good times for so many. {#emotions_dlg.unsure}

Have a lovely rest of your Wednesday, and keep safe, Birding Friends.

Carthamus tinctorius

Hi again, Birding Friends, I thought this was so pretty. I'd never checked before to see what a safflower looked like, even though I use the seeds for bird food. It kind of reminds me of the purple thistle, but I haven't read up on them to see if they are related. I found several pretty photos on Pintrest where it's used in bouquets and flower arrangements as well as info. on safflower as a healthy 'food' or supplement. I just though you might be interested in what it's like before it becomes bird food.

It has orange blooms too.

Fruit and safflower flowers in a pitcher.

Possumm - this must be what safflower oil is made from.

Hi everyone. Hope all are cool and comfy. Not so much either out here in Sou Cal. LOVE all the great pictures - just love them.

Feathered friends are hiding out today - filled their feeders the other day and they sure did not last long - the filled feeders that is.

Got my washing done this morning - was not near enough so suspect dirty clothes are hidden somewhere around here. LOL>

Got to check on my dinner - and the kids - what a combo - Have a great evening.
