This is a sand sculpture of an owl. Fascinating!

Hi mousiegirl! I love looking for these colorful birds to post. Having an English heritage, have you ever visited England?

Winifred, we are only flying to the States in October for my second surgery. We will stay through the holidays to be with my family and return to England after the New Year. We are putting our flat over her up for sale then. We will send our belongings when we actually move back to the States by sea, but we will fly with all the filled suitcases allowed.{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Bird mama, I am born and bred Texan. My DH is British through and through. Hold the party, as we will not be back permanently for some time yet. I do expect the welcome mat out though when we are home to stay.Smile Thank you for all the lovely daily birds. I am learning a lot about all the birds you post.

No, Puddles, never been to England. Even though my Mother's heritage is England, and of course there is Irish and Scotch in that Country also, she was born and raised Canadian, Eastern, and I don't know if she had ever been there. My Dad's side is American Indian, German, Dutch, and Irish, so I am a true mutt. Smiley Happy

Mousiegirl - I'm pulling for you at the end of the finish line of your house renovations. It has to be frustrating when you work with an 'expert' and they don't listen to you.

Puddles - the sand sculpture of the owl is beautiful.

Mama Grebe taking her babies for a ride.

Hi Birding Friends., It's clouding up here in FL like it might rain. Probably just a teaser or just enough to raise the humidity out of sight.

Mousie, You could probably write a book, best seller, about the different experiences you have encountered with they remodeling job on your home. The funny things, the irritating things, how you have improvised and adapted to the ongoing displacement of your kitchen, etc. I would be so frustrated with that interior designer that kept "scre-wing up" and misleading you. When it's all finished, it will be beautiful and you all will be so proud of it that these setbacks will fade into funny memories, I hope.Smile

Birdmama, I too consider myself still married to Charlie. Hardly a day goes by that I don't think of him, remember his smile, and wonder what he'd think of our kids and their children. He died before the last two were born and now those two are teenagers. I did have my Chivas and water and toasted him. We used to toast each other with that combo on each anniversary after he learned to like scotch. So many memories.

Puddles, What a cool sand sculpture. I've never seen an owl one before. Very creative. The only sand 'sculpture' I've been able to create are with little buckets full of sand and maybe a moat around the little castles that look like little buckets of sand turned upside down.{#emotions_dlg.lol}

DDIL and my middle GS leave for CA tomorrow and we just found out there's a plumbing problem. No water is coming out of the showers, faucets, even outside hose. Just what she needs to deal with while trying to get ready to go to Orlando this evening, to fly out early in the morning.

I need to close and check with the neighbors to see if they are having water problems too. Be back later. Have a great rest of your afternoon and evening.

Oh, Mousie, I can so relate to the problems of remodeling. We have been in the process of remodeling DMIL's flat which we inherited. We started with the kitchen and that went rather smoothly, but then we the bathroom was a nightmare and after six months, we are still calling for adjustments, repairs, replacements, etc. Now we are replacing all the windows and I wonder what can go wrong with that. I promise you though when it is all done to your specifications, it will be beautiful and you will love it! I hope you get the chance to visit England someday. It's a beautiful place to visit, but to live not so much.

Birdmama & possummink, I couldn't believe when that sand owl popped up during my computer search of birds. Quiet amazing!

possummink, your idea of making things in sand is about like mine.{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Another nice day but it did get a tad warm but not like we were having. Unfortunately the experts say the heat AND the humidity are going to start driving us nuts again. The heat is usually horrible in August anyway.

So the school district in all their wisdom changed the school year about 10 or 15 years ago. It is sooooooo dumb. They start the second week of August - hottest time of the year so just imagine what the AC bills are for the schools - and they stagger the year out through the second week of June - always has been that but they use to start in September - they still should do that. They give so many holidays, minimum days - you name it - the kids just should stay in school and keep their heads geared to school work. Grrrrr.And in recent years they added that MOndays would start two hours later than the norm. Since the schools are required to provide education to the kids a certain amount of days each year, this is ludicrous. I believe it is the strong teachers union here - whatever they want they get. At one time they were underpaid but not the case these days. I just wish education - out here anyway - would get back to helping the kids and teaching them.

As usual just love the pictures - I was in England a L O N G time ago - lived in Germany for three years - just loved it.

Hope all had a great day

There will be more added as they are made. I hope you enjoy using them ...

Winifred, I think things have most likely changed since you lived in Europe L O N G agoSmile. We have friends in Germany and love going to visit, but visit is the operative word. It could be that I'm just homesick, but having lived here in the 80's & 90's, things have changed in England. However, I guess the same could be said for everywhere.

I have to admit that I don't understand the change in a school year. I feel sorry for the children of today as they will never know the "long days of summer" as we did.

Waving a happy day to all my birding friends!
