A Tennessee woman is devastated about losing her grandmother for a second time after her ashes were stolen by a porch pirate.
She was cremated, and her ashes were divided , between Jeff and his aunt, who lives in Ohio, and shipped to Jeff’s home in Memphis’ Midtown neighborhood.
Tracking information showed that the package containing the ashes was delivered on Dec. 4 — but when Jeff went outside to get it off his front porch, there was nothing there.
“We’ve had so many things stolen here. Everything from tables and chairs to a can of Raid. Someone is always coming up and grabbing whatever they can find,” he told the outlet.
Memphis is ranked the second worst city in the country for porch pirates,
Nationally, package thefts have led to losses of up to $6 billion nationwide, if the average package stolen was $50, according to Safewise. Over half of the packages stolen were from Amazon.
The family is now begging for whoever took the box to return it — no questions asked.
They are going to Install a camera.
Very SAD

Whoever stole this box is going to be very disappointed and surprised at the contents.
Hopefully they will not dispose of it, but just put it somewhere in the hopes someone will reunite with the owner.

Sorry to read of such a thing. People today feel so entitled - even to be allowed to steal from others at their own selfish whim.
Maybe stonger laws with really strong punishment needs to be enacted. These things shouldn't happen,

@aj1980 Folks have been steaing flowers from the dead so it is no surprise they are now stealing THE DEAD. There is no punishment given for such vile acts so there is no deterrent.

I would love to see the pirates' faces when they realize what they stole. Very sad story.

Very sad story, just awful!

@aj1980 Wow that is so incredibly sad and just disgusting. If I was having so much stolen, I would either have my packages held at the Post Office or local shipping office, get a storage locker to ship stuff to, or even put a lock box on my porch (fastened to the porch) to put my packages in. Something like human ashes you would think there would have been a signature upon delivery option but I guess not. Hopefully they will be returned but I doubt it. If they were in an urn, they will probably dump the ashes and try to pawn the urn. The level of depravity in today's world is just beyond disgusting.

My BIL was 'delivered' to us in NYS from TN and yes, we did have to sign for 'him'.

So very sad!
Hopefully those who took it would have the heart to return it but I'm afraid there s a good chance that the theives would just throw it away.

I had no idea you could ship ashes. Truthfully, the whole idea is a bad one. Even if the ashes hadn't been stolen from the porch, they could have just as easily been "misplaced" by the shipping company.
