@gabstoomuch, Midwest vs Upper Midwest. Good question! I think of Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, etc. to be the Midwest. I know John the HockeyNut has said he lives in Nebraska and he said he is from the Midwest. I live in the state above John, South Dakota, and to me, that is the Upper Midwest. Since we have under 800,000 in our whole state, maybe I should refer to it as the Unpopulated Midwest, .

I'm contemplating where I'll live in my retirement years. I prefer the central U.S. but admit that other states such as the Carolinas, TN, and VA interest me.
