I just read a story on ABC news that a zebra cobra is loose in Raleigh.
Police were called about it being on a porch but it slithered off. They can spit and, of course, bite.
Poisonous snakes are legal in NC but have to be in an escape proof, bite proof enclosure.
Stay safe. I wouldn't be sleeping until they catch it.

I think I'll probably sleep fine.

I've been texting my best friend about this, as one of her children lives near this section of Raleigh that is being searched.

This irritates the #$%^^%$ out of me.
It is not like we don't have enough snakes without adding something like that to the crowd. One of my neighbors was bitten by 2 different copperheads and killed both of them. He called a snake removal company and they found 51 copperheads on his property. We have a lot of ivy in our neighborhood.

@tiny 2 51 copperheads. Sweet baby James, I'd be gone.
I am not afraid of snakes per se, I draw the line at the poisonous ones and those big enough to give you a hug/squeeze.

Can you imagine walking through the house and reaching down to pick up a belt that you think the cat must have playing with and it is a venomous snake. Yeah I haven't been able to walk through the house in the dark half asleep to go to the bathroom for 8 years. ![]()

@tiny 2 I thought about some poor dogs outside and going after the scaly escapee.
I don't know bad the poison is for this cobra. I think spitting cobras can blind folks. Not sure if this one qualifies.

Close for me, but too for for him to slither over.
He is a Zebra Cobra, who not only has a venomous bite, he can also spit venom - either can cause death, and serious illness. If he misses with those, maybe he can still strangle you!
Sadly, these snakes are allowed as pets in NC as long as a sturdy, secure cage is provided to keep him from escaping, and to protect the public. Guess the owner missed on this part.
I don’t like this law, but there it is.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 Yes they said it spits among other things. I doubt any animal would survive this bite. They did give advice if you are bitten to go to the hospital right away. SMH
