@smoochy Exactly!  We both had high-stress jobs, travel, elderly people we needed to keep up with, etc.  Glad to be out of the rat race!

Re: Are-You-In-A-Rut? Challenge

@amyb  Just discovered Emily Lex about 2 weeks ago.  Started watercolor painting this week.  Finished two tonight.  Takes all of 10 mins.

I chose the Flowers.

Already switched it up, the white peony, did in pink.  I only have had pink peonies, didn't like the brown bottle, did clear with blueish water.

Which book(s) did you choose?

I chose the garden book! I've only done 2, I need to get back to it!

Love them...I'm already wanting a few more of her new themes. I'm on her email list.

It was such a non-intimidating way to dive back into watercolor painting, which I felt rusty at.

@amyb When I first saw "The Notebook" the scene where the guy character sets up an art room for the girl so she can paint, for a second I thought "I should do that" and then remember I can't draw/paint.

I see painting/drawing or whatever you enjoy (for me it's weeding) to be therapeutic.

Your post is lovely, especially your relationship with your parents.

Do it anyway!!!

Re: Are-You-In-A-Rut? Challenge

My husband and I saw a Youtube video recently from a doctor who said who have to do several things to train your brain so you don't get dementia.  The brain enjoys staying in a rut so he suggested:

     learn a new language

     learn a musical instrument

     keep up with social interactions

     exercise 30 minutes a day

He said solving puzzles or crosswords arent't enough.  You need to develop new pathways in your brain to stay on focus.

So we played Scrabble and I can't put my hands on my old Spanish textbook from high school but when I do find it I think I will refresh my mind with Spanish.
