I went on a tour for the first time this summer - it's a national historic site and was very interesting. After that I bought the Doris Kearns Goodwin book "The Bully Pulpit" - it was a FASCINATING book...beats RHONJ any time!!!!
After watching her on C-Span recently, I have to get that book! She's the most intelligent, fascinating author I've ever read. She makes history come alive ... even the Q &A after her discussion was mesmerizing ... she "lived" the story as though she were there. I was so sorry when the show ended.

After posting on this thread, I decided to take the dog for a walk along the path between the house where Roosevelt was inaugurated, the Wilcox Mansion, and the house two miles north where McKinley died. That made a nice 4 mile or so walk...it's a beautiful, cool day.
When I got to the site of the house where McKinley died (which was torn down & now is the address of my son's high school, Canisius HS) I stopped to read the marker.
It was on September 14, 1901 that McKinley died & Teddy Roosevelt was sworn in as president - EXACTLY 113 years ago today!
I had no idea...
What a coincidence!

She's a huge Red Sox fan too.

Thanks for the reminder. I passed it on to SIL and my youngest son. They want to see it to. The preview that Ken Burns did mentioned an upcoming documentary on country music. I can't wait for that one, too!

If I can remember, I will be watching. Years ago, when Ken Burns created the series on baseball, I would stick a VHS, at the time, into the recorder every evening, and I managed to record the entire series. DH watched it, and still has the tapes today, in case he ever has time to watch again.
