I don't use the SurePost upgrade to UPS, but many times UPS delivers my packages anyway since "they're in the area".

Coincidentally that just occurred with a Penzeys order that is on its way to me.
Oh, I see, then that is odd that they are not bypassing USPS and being sent all the way by UPS.

I'm confused by the original poster's comment because I pay $20 per year for UPS My Choice which keeps my packages from being transferred to the postal service. Instead, it is delivered directly by UPS if UPS was the original shipment method. This way usually saves at least one and sometimes more days in transit and cuts down on the chance of the package being lost in the transfer. My UPS driver would never deliver a damaged package.

Occasionally my package will transfer to the USPS for delivery. It takes only one extra day. Never heard of the Choice option.

I have never had a problem.
If you pay a fee to UPS, they will upgrade your ground packages that sent by UPS-to-post office so they are delivered by UPS. It speeds up delivery by 1-3 days.

Same with me. And yes, UPS will sometimes deliver (from QVC) directly to me. But it only happens a few times. I looked it up and found out that sometimes when UPS is to transfer to USPS, there is a delay because USPS much have filled up trucks. It's a way of saving money for the Post Office

@Marsha2003 UPS My Choice has two levels of "membership", Basic (free), and Premium (paid), according to information on line. Is it correct that I can pay for a membership (UPS My Choice) for $20 per year and avoid the UPS handoff to USPS? The transfer seems to be the holdup. Thank you for your information.

@Jeanne from VA I pay the $20/year to UPS, then in the settings I choose the option to have all packages automatically upgraded. I've been doing this for about three years because I was so frustrated with Mail Innovations and QVC's transfer from UPS to USPS for delivery. Of course, if an item ships from the shipper by US Postal Service, then it stays with USPS.

I have the $20 UPS Premium My Choice also. Almost everything stays with UPS. Occasionally I get a notice from UPS that the shipper used some shipping method that requires the handover to USPS. I don't remember what it's called, but it must be a really really cheap shipping method. That almost never happens so I consider the $20 annual fee worthwhile since we do a lot of online ordering.
