Re: Anyone Discontinued Home Land Line and Using Just Cell Phone?

I am toying with the idea....but a little afraid to...I have always had a landline even though I rarely get ""real"" phone calls...only telemarketers....or doctor offices reminding me of an upcoming appointment....

I am wondering if it will be more costly buying minutes for my Tracfone...as I do talk to my sister a few times a week.....and they usually are for a long time.....

Yes did away with land line about 6 plus years ago and haven't regretted it at all. Saving of at least $50 each month. You do have to notify people but after that it is great......

Re: Anyone Discontinued Home Land Line and Using Just Cell Phone?

When someone calls me on their cell and reception is bad I won't stay on the call that I can't understand half of what is said. I can usually tell by the poor reception that it is a cell phone. It's like we are going backwards. Sure there's newer technology with cell phones but the reception is usually not clear all the time. It only takes one emergency call to 911 where time is wasted with getting the address or having the call dropped or sound garbled to validate having a landline especially since so many complain their reception is poor indoors. Metal doors and roofs interfere with reception. I'll keep my landline.

Re: Anyone Discontinued Home Land Line and Using Just Cell Phone?

The last couple of days I have had five telemarketer calls...including one today....(sunday)...telling them to take me off their list is useless...and being on the do not call list is also useless....if I decide to drop my landline...it will be only because of them.....I am literally tired of being woken by a telemarketer....

I'll never understand....I pay my bill..montly....yet these intrusive calls are exempt from the list and can invade my privacy any day all day from 8am till 9pm....

We discontinued our land lines a couple weeks ago. We do not miss them at all.

I lied on 3/25/14....I miss my land lines terribly. I didn't realize how much I dislike talking on cell phones and how much other people hate talking to you on cell phones and I miss leaving messages on the home machine for my husband or myself!

We do still have two landlines in the house, as well as both of us having cell phones. But I don't really see any way around it, as the alarm system uses one line (the one we also use for telephoning), and the internet (DSL) uses the other one. Used to be that the cable boxes had to be hooked up to a landline as did the Tivos but that's not the case anymore. The Tivos are on my home network and somehow or other cable is able to do whatever it does without being on my network OR connected to a phone line.

But, if we didn't need those lines for anything I wouldn't see any reason not to get rid of them.

If you don't need a landline for any reason, might as well save that money. It's not cheap, especially if you have TWO lines like we do.

So many people just use their cell phones now. My husband never uses the home phones. I use them because I don't give out my cell phone number to pretty much anybody.

We were the same way until we got ADT Pulse and U-verse all wireless in our home, and I love it.

No, because I don't want to get calls while I'm.driving, or the doctor's office calling while I'm in the checkout line at the grocery store, etc.

I just can't operate that way and be "available" 24/7.

Cell.phone is for private life.

(Family, close friends).

Everyone else gets home (landline) and can leave a message until I am available.

I agree with you! I feel exactly the same way. I used to be on call for my job, and I have no desire to be on call now!

Also - Getting rid of my landline would actually cost me more money since it's tied in with my TV and internet service, so the package deal price would be replaced with more of an a la carte situation and would end up being more expensive.

And - most important - I've lived thru blackouts, 9/11, terrible hurricanes, and various other major events when cell phones did not work. Landlines (not always, but most of the time) did. During one of the blackouts, my son (who was young) was at a play rehearsal, cell phones were useless, and the only way we were able to make contact was by using landline phones.

I love my cell phone, and I honestly don't know how I lived most of my life without one. But I can't imagine giving up my landline. There are just too many reasons for me to keep it. Kiss
