We're really considering doing this since we hardly get any calls now on our land line and service has gone up so, so much. I know we'd have to consider notifying anyone who had our land line as a primary number and that would involve a little bit of work; but I'm wondering how many of you have done this and any other things I might need to consider before doing it? How has it worked for you?

I have recently gone to cell phone only, but then my husband's commercial garage is located only a few steps away and has the landline business phone, which we can use in case of extended power outages when a cell can't be charged ... weak or no cell signals, or other emergencies. We have VERY harsh winters here, otherwise I wouldn't worry much at all. I group emailed the new number to most of my phone contacts---saved a lot of time. Good luck to you!

Yes! We dumped our landline w/ Verizon 15 months ago when I bought a Samsung Nokia cell from the Q (which was under $100). It came w/ a year free service + 1400 minutes, and triple minutes for life. So when I buy a Nokia card for 60 minutes ($20) I get 180 minutes + 3 months service. I've saved $90/mo on the Verizon charge and that didn't include the long distance charges so it is more than $2000 saved. I transferred our landline # to my cell so I'm on my "home" line wherever I am. I only have to charge it every 10 days or so and I've used it to report power outages (our # is connected w/ the location of the outage). It is so worth getting rid of those huge Tel. Co. bills every month!

We have both, but I know people that only have cell.
We get lots of spam calls on the land line. Wonder if everyone had my cell number if I would be getting them on my cell?

My dh was urging me to discontinue our land line phone but I was so reluctant. We finally did quite a few years ago and its been one of the best things we've done!! I read on here about everyone getting sales calls, political calls, peddlers calling, I get absolutely NOTHING!! Love using only my cell!

I really can't do that although I would like to. Sometimes I have to move room to room or even outside to get a clear connection. I like knowing that at least I have a land line that I can depend on. It's in a bundle package with the internet and cable. Price isn't too bad.

patti.... we recently changed to all cell phone.... and we put our land line phone # on our cell phone so there was no need to notify our friends of a new #.

We do still have two landlines in the house, as well as both of us having cell phones. But I don't really see any way around it, as the alarm system uses one line (the one we also use for telephoning), and the internet (DSL) uses the other one. Used to be that the cable boxes had to be hooked up to a landline as did the Tivos but that's not the case anymore. The Tivos are on my home network and somehow or other cable is able to do whatever it does without being on my network OR connected to a phone line.
But, if we didn't need those lines for anything I wouldn't see any reason not to get rid of them.
If you don't need a landline for any reason, might as well save that money. It's not cheap, especially if you have TWO lines like we do.
So many people just use their cell phones now. My husband never uses the home phones. I use them because I don't give out my cell phone number to pretty much anybody.

We discontinued our land lines a couple weeks ago. We do not miss them at all.

I lie having the secure connection of a land line. Cell phones calls can be spotty and calls dropped.
I'll never get rid of my land line.
