Re: Anxiety before traveling

What helps me is making a detailed color coded list in my Notes of everything that needs to be done or packed. Red icon for not done; Green icon when done. That way I can tell with a quick look what tasks still need doing.

The list is all green by the time I leave and I don’t have to worry if I forgot anything.

Go with the flow - within reason.

The anticipation is killing you and the excitement.

Stay loose and don't sweat the small stuff.

@alarmclock  A whole lot easier said than done.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

I think it's a possibility but I think you will revert back almost immediately!

Try to pace yourself so you can enjoy the trip!!

Re: Anxiety before traveling

I usually work myself up into such a lather before we travel. I always get the sinus issue. Oh it such anxiety. You are definitely not alone in this. Have a great trip and enjoy yourself. ❤️

Re: Anxiety before traveling

@gidgetgh,

I am right in the boat beside you on this issue!

I can get in my car and make any local trip without a second thought, but my husbands recheck appts with the surgeon take us 3 hours north into unfamiliar territory, and I don’t do well with that trip.  Even tho we have 6 trips under our belts now, it is no easier for me than the first trip we made!

Sending good old wishes for you and your husband to enjoy a safe, and fun getaway!

@gidgetgh

I know that you know this, but your life is filled with the additional responsibility / stress of care for your DH, a loving, gift, but still much pressurizing anxiety already.

It sounds as if you are living close to your pressure max. on a daily basis.

I know this is simple, easier said than done, advice, but it works for me.  When I feel anxious, I narrow my focus down to the smallest unit of  time I can handle.   First I try for an hour.  So this past hour was Ok, nothing bad happened - Great!  What do I need to focus on in the next hour?  No need for you to focus a week or two ahead, you’ve already made your plans and contingent plans.  Set a time for remaining tasks, not buy snacks today, but buy snacks today at 11.  By assigning an exact time, you are better controlling ‘free floating’ anxiety.

While I have NO travel anxiety, it is my ‘thing’,  there are plenty other things around I worry about.

Hope this helps a bit.  For what it might be worth, I think you are a very thoughtful, brave, strong, person.

Best Wishes, I hope you and DH are able to go and have fun.  If not, don’t beat yourself up.

Re: Anxiety before traveling

You are not alone with general anxiety issues.

I so get it.
