Well, that's why my husband answers ALL calls - he can't stand the phone ringing 4 times before it goes to voice mail. So I guess I'm not sure how to avoid that. How are the rings silenced?
@spent2much
If I'm near the phone for the first or second ring often I'll pick it up, press green for talk and immediately red for hang up. Sometimes I pick up and hit the # key a dozen times because someone told me that screws up their robo system for awhile. However, I don't know if that's a fact. But it makes me feel good to do that.

@spent2much I have a Panasonic system and when I set up voice mail, I believe I had thee option of one ring or 4. Maybe there's a way to do that on your system.

@J Town Girl wrote:The other day I received an email from Zappos stating that they had charged my PayPal account $177.00 for a pair of Ugg Boots and I should verify the purchase. I immediately went to my PayPal account and there were no charges.
I called Zappos and the customer rep told me that it was a scam and I should just delete the email. She said Zappos doesn't send out emails.
I just thought how easily someone could be fooled by such an email. They really did a good job of copying the Zappos logo and it looked so genuine. After calming down and really looking over the email I could see small discrepancies that made it obvious that it wasn't real but at you had to look for them. I've never purchased anything from Zappos.

That has happened to me several times!! It is so irritating and makes me somewhat jumpy about accounts. Have received emails from 'amazon' and 'home depot'!!
I do check my account with Amazon and talk to a customer service person. But I have never ordered anything from Home Dept!! Called and they told me the same thing...delete emails!!

i do not pick up for numbers i do not recognize. sometimes i dont even pick up for numbers i recognize. LOL
I would use caller ID with caution even they can't be trusted...
scammers spoof phone numbers and even use numbers such as well known retailers, hospitals, doctor offices, even your own home number making you think it was a family member calling.....
@Spurt You are so right about them spoofing your own number. About a week after my husband died I received a call from him! Almost passed out!

@spent2much wrote:My husband answered the phone today. It was a recording telling him that $345.00 had been charged at Amazon dot com. They wanted to be sure it was OUR charge. They gave a phone number to call to let them know. Hubby hung up. I think if we had called the number, they would have asked for our credit card number to "verify."
I checked Amazon and our bank. No such charge had been made. Maybe next time we'll call the number to see just how deceitful they can be, WITHOUT ever giving them any information. BEWARE!
Best to never call scammers back. You'll probably get a busy signal.

Ah, ok. I think we can set it to either 2, 4 or 6 rings. But hubby won't want to change it to 2 cuz he'll say, "That's not enough time to answer it." Isn't it amazing how, when you're married long enough, you know *exactly* how they think? ![]()
