In technology news, thieves have managed to breach Experian's credit freezes an "thawed" those accounts. It seems that freezing one's credit isn't very secure, after all. Or maybe Experian just isn't reliable.

 There is no sense anymore to freeze credit reports, as doing so doesn't change anything. The only way to stay completely safe is to discontinue doing things online, which is not an option. Just need to double check any sites and to keep your Norton, McAfee or other up to date. I can't think of what else one can do.

@teganslaw : Wonder how that works with all three being frozen. Experience is really unreliable

I have my credit 'frozen' at all three credit monitoring companies.  When I checked all three, they still said that they were locked.  I hope that is true.

I don't know how it affects all three; the article only mentioned Experian. But maybe if that happened, there is a chance that the others could be breached, as well. I don't plan on freezing my credit any time soon. I haven't had any problems, hoping it stays that way.

@teganslaw

First there was the big Equifax breach......And Experian has issues (hasnt been the first time either) ..... and whats scary is credit cards use these same agencies for their "free" credit scores....

Thankfully another company I have utilizes something else for info for me.....

Yep, make sure your security software is up to date....and check your credit cards and bank account records frequently for any suspicious activity....

@teganslaw    What is your source for news on this breach?  I'd like to read it.

Edited to add:  I just found an article about it on FoxBusiness.
