Went to Costco today....while checking out the frozen meat section, I noticed a sign for $99.00 for fancy steaks....I thought....wow...then I noticed it said $99.00 a pound!!!!
One package had two steaks....just TWO steaks and it was $215.00!!!!!
Mind you...there was a good bit of fat that would need to be trimmed once they were cooked....I figured that small amount of fat that would most likely go in the trash would cost about $45.00 per steak....
I guess I'm still in shock....I just can't imagine.🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️

I don't know if this is why steaks are so high but as gas goes up it affects the trucks that carry the food to us.
As oil goes up it affects everything to those plastic bags our food comes home in to just about everything.
Doesn't do a bit of good to complain because it is what it is.
So....sit down and hang on.

I don't know what part of the country a lot of the posters here live, but I can assure you that beef prices in the Midwest are not $99/lb. Seriously, @grandma petes, what state do you live in and was this imported beef? I'm in Missouri (St. Louis) and prices for beef steaks aren't anywhere close to that. Most steaks in grocery stores here are around $8 - $12 pound, depending on the cut....and they are Midwest beef.
No reason for anyone to spread panic. I wonder if Costco was selling imported beef? And honestly, why would a person buy beef that's imported?
Edited: I had no knowledge of Waghu beef (sorry if that's spelled incorrectly). I looked it up and it's a beef that is raised in Japan and shipped to the this country for sale. Please tell me why we (the U.S.A.) would buy beef raised in a foreign country. Just asking.

I'm in WA state and sometimes buy rib eyes at Costco at very sane prices!

It was clearly something out of the ordinary. I happened to check out the filet mignon at Costco this very afternoon, and that was $16.99 per pound.
