I'm doing this in segments since I have lost two replies. Motions that will be argued and ruled on at the March 19 court date are for a change of judge for preliminary hearing on April 7 and denial of using a public defender. It seems he has a very large trust fund and prosecuting feels he can afford his own attorney w/o using public funds. He did not enter a plea at the video appearance on Friday. It was reported he registered a look of surprise when the charges were read to him.

I'm sorry this is sort of disjointed as I am still feeling bad. The FBI joined the investigation upon the release of the Amber Alert. The truck is registered to his father who lives in Ash Grove (a small town 20 miles west of here which is my hometown.) I don't believe they lived there when I was growing up. They are well liked and respected people. They have issued statements saying they are just as shocked and devastated as everyone else. They have extended sympathy to Hailey's family, friends, etc.

The search of the house also produced some of Hailey's clothing and the baseball cap that witnesses reported he was wearing at the time of the abduction. There were several bottles of bleach; the house smelled of bleach; and the basement floor was still damp. The police collected clothing from washers at a Laundromat not too far from his house. It was reported he had a spot of blood on the shirt he was wearing when the police took him into custody as he drove up to his house just about 3 hours after the initial abduction report. He agreed to go with them. He had a roll of duct tape in his hands when they approached him in his driveway. He tossed it into the bed of the truck. The medical examiner reported Hailey was shot at the base of her skull at the back of her head. She had ligature marks on her wrists. It was not been reported regarding any sexual molestation. The autopsy results have not been released yet. He cooperated about going to the station for questioning with the police, but didn't ask why they were retaining him. When they started asking questions, he immediately asked for an attorney, so they had to stop. He has not given any information. He only spoke once at the court appearance to acknowledge he understood the charges.
