They may have over-done it. At the least, they haven't adjusted to the loss of positions.
What? That's weird.
Who does lay-offs at the beginning of the holiday season?
Usually retailers need to hire short-term and part-time help.
@Tinkrbl44. I know. That's what I thought too.

@Marp. They eliminated 14,000 positions affecting about 30,000 people. Some would have been shift workers, two people in same position, different shifts.

@monicakm I certainly will continue to use Prime. I just wish I knew if some of the gift orders will arrive in time so I can I plan accordingly and either order elsewhere or shop locally.

@Marp Even if most of the layoffs were corporate middle management, the affects can trickle down the ladder. I've been living through it at my place of employment for a year now. With no one "in charge", no one knows how to make a decision or solve a problem or wants that responsibility, so things go awry.
I have never seen issues with orders like this in my area in all the years I've used Amazon. I can only guess that the layoffs affected the warehouses in my area.

I'm guessing it's not just about the positions eliminated, but also your proximity to Amazon warehouses.
I live in the Greater Los Angeles area, and we have about 5 warehouses in the region. If one warehouse doesn't have something I want, I'm sure the others probably do.

Well, my issue isn't with Amazon, but it is with the post office.
I ordered a Kuhn Rikon kitchen item on 11/30. It apparently shipped on 12/2 and it made it from Virginia to NJ on 12/6.
And, as of today, it's in the Opa Locka FL distribution center!!!
I'm in New England. I hate to tell the post office, but they're going in the wrong direction! Where next? Cuba???
I'll be amazed if I get it in a week or two. It reminds me of the time this past year that they sent a package that was a couple hours away, clear across the country to the midwest. Then sent it on a magical, mystery tour back to me.
There is no rhyme or reason to the incompetence sometimes.

Yes, Amazon has been off on their shipping in recent months.
We are Prime Members and our items often take longer than the 2 days to get here. We often get notifications saying certain items have been delayed.
However, there are plenty of times when we get same-day delivery, which is also crazy to me. All in all, it beats the shipping time of most companies out there.

Yep I definitely noticed a delay in shipments. We are very rural and we just got Amazon deliveries a year ago. Things always take a few more days but lately everything is 7-10 deliveries.

The 30,000 layoffs are all corporate positions, not line working people. They wouldn't
have an effect on shipping and deliveries.
