extremely unlikely, as long as she stays in the states.

i have a hard time trusting the italian judicial system. corruption and bribery is commonplace there.

"Amanda Knox could effectively be trapped in the US for the rest of her life if President Barack O-b-a-m-a’s government decides to protect her from extradition to Italy.

If Ms Knox’s new conviction stands after further appeals, Italian authorities must decide whether to ask the US to hand her over under the 1983 extradition treaty between the two countries.

John Kerry, the US Secretary of State, would ultimately be responsible for either approving a request and forwarding it to the US justice department for processing in the courts – or rejecting it."

Her lawyer stated last night that if they lose their appeal there is a possibility the Italian Courts WILL take steps to bring her back to Italy...

Fighting for them.( formerly EMTHeart)

This will be very interesting to see what happens. On one hand the US extradites the most out of any nation. And on the other hand the US may not honor the verdict as it is basically a double jeopardy case, right? On the news this am it was reported that after it goes to the italian supreme court, and then the appeal, and then the extradition process....it could be decades.

It wasn't a double jeopardy case in the sense that it was not two trials by jury. However, that doesn't matter. Other countries don't have to have the same legal system as the US and we've certainly extradited to Italy many times. The decision is still years down the road as this still has to go to the Italian Supreme Court and if they uphold the verdict and Italy requests extradition, Knox can appeal to our court system.

It's always a victory for me when I remember why I entered a room.

I am not one who believes in people being tried more than once for the same crime unless their is positive DNA to prove something now that couldn't be proven years ago. Yes, I have been irritated and upset by what I thought was a wrong verdict, but,on the whole, our system works a lot better than many others.

Watched the news last night with two different legal experts weighing in. One said they don't think the US will hand her over and brought up the double jeopardy issue.

The other lawyer said he thinks there is not enough evidence to have found them guilty and feels the Italian legal system bungled things so badly that Amanda and her BF suffered for that. He said he feels it has to do with the third guy tied to this case (I think he's African) and he'd been arrested and set free and tied to this murder. He felt this verdict was covering up for their own mishandling of that case and needing to hold someone accountable for it.

DNA doesn't lie and her DNA was found on the victims bra clasp. DNA has convicted many people as well as released others for wrongful convictions.

luvpoos, the actual rapist and murderer is in prison and was in custody way before Amanda and Rafaele were made the focus. He was an Ivory Coast drug dealer and burglar. It was his DNA that was all over Meredith and the apartment, not Amanda's and Rafaele's. Yet, in the fervor to go after the two students, the obvious has been completely ignored. When he was first questioned he never mentioned anyone else at all. Then the Italian prosecutor contrived his fantasy of some kind of orgy, fed that to the police and to the press, and it was widely accepted as truth with no proof, even in the U.S. As the details of the first trial came out and also the second trial, there is no other conclusion to be drawn other than Rudy Guede acted alone which is usually the case with rapist/murderers. One life was taken and two other lives have now been destroyed forever because of this rapist. As for the Italian prosecutor, this isn't the first time he has made up an orgy scenario in a trial. He should be disbarred, but in the Italian system, the prosecutor is allowed to feed the press anything he chooses and is in total control of what the police are allowed to do. Incidentally this murder/rapist/drug dealer/ burglar got his sentence reduced to 16 years on appeal.

That is what I have read as well. I thought when the case first hit the news she was as guilty as guilty could be. Then I started researching this case and had grave doubts. No DNA by the 2 found...only the drug dealer. The police interviews were very aggressive and over the top.

The biggest problem is she and her boyfriends bizarre actions immediately after the crime. All over each other while camera's were clicking, making out. Shopping and buying lingerie with her boyfriend a few days after... showing no restraint or concern for the poor young lady who was savagely murdered. Classless and coming across as cold hearted. She and he were their own worse enemies.

I'm not sure what to think either. I haven't followed the story. There was an article in the paper today. I'll have to go back and read it.

I wish the Italian judicial system would leave this poor young lady alone. For goodness sakes, there was no DNA found in that room that led to Amanda or her boyfriend. No evidence whatsoever. The DA is corrupt and a big bafoon. Stay in the U.S. Amanda, and no, I don't think our judicial system will send her back - double jeopardy.
