Anyone have experience with Ally Bank?  It's online only, a bit out of my comfort zone.  I know of 2 people who use it because of the higher interest rates of their accounts but I'm just wondering if it's as good as they say.  It seems popular now.

I can't speak specifically about Ally Bank, but I've had an online savings account since 2004. The bank was ING. But it's now owned by Capital One.

I've never had any problems transferring money.

@ScrapHappy I have a CD with Ally Bank.  No problems.  I have had it over 10 years now.

@ScrapHappy - I don't have experience with Ally either, but I have had an online money market account with American Express for years.

I was nervous going in.....hmmmmm.....online only. I don't know about this, but it has all worked fine.  Money transfers have gone without a hitch, and it's FDIC insured which I'm sure Ally is also.

And, I love their interest rate for a money market account.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Ally is the old GM Financial that was renamed after GM's bankruptcy in 2008.

I had AMEX savings along with their cc for years. AMEX limited the number of deposits and withdrawls per month so I closed it after a year or two.  Have only their cc now.

I haven't set foot in a brick and mortar bank in years.

I know nothing personally about them.  They did have an office in the same office building my company was in  - Charlotte NC. Used to see employees out and about.

DD has used Ally for years. No problem. I think their rates are very close to Discover online banking if you're more comfortable using  a well known solid company
