@froggyI learned it via my credit union where I maintain what I call my "pseudo savings account" because the money isn't there for very long.  It comes in and I move some to checking to spend, some to an account with better interest to save, and leave some there for those expenses I still find unpredictable!

One year I apparently had too many "unexpected" in one month and when I tried to move a bit of money one time too often.  That's when I learned I couldn't do it electronically because of the banking laws;  I could have done it in person but I was in another state.  I could, though, make another 6 electronic withdrawals from another account in the same bank!

I don't know the history of the law, so I can't say why 6 is the magic number.
