@151949  There are many restaurants in my area where I get myself a little more “put together” than usual...bordering on dressed nicely. Now everyone’s wearing shorts/tees on a Sat. night even couples who appear to be on a date...that was when I remember wanting to look my best, not just average.

You do what makes you feel comfortable. That’s what I do. If I’m in capris/tees all week, I like getting a little more fixed up when going out...feels special, right?

I had something similar happen...I had lunch with a few friends who retired the same time I did. I had on white capris, coral color t shirt matching sandals , necklace with matching earrings and was asked why I got "so dressed up".

@151949 I totally agree that a maxi is much cooler than any kind of slacks or shorts. We don't get a lot of really hot weather in the PNW, but when we do, I grab a maxi dress. I go outside to water my plants and no one asks me why I'm dressed up when they walk by. LOL.  A lot of gals in our area wear maxi dresses ~ so comfy. Keep up with what you are doing, @151949 and enjoy !!

What is considered 'dressed up' today is much less than what those over 50 remember as being 'dressed up' back in the day. 

You must have looked nice and crisp and pretty, and this was their way of saying so. 

Even a back handed compliment is a compliment. Take it and move on.

@151949 good for you for wearing what you felt was comfortable for youand appropriate.  these days comfort rules all too often, not so much appropriate-ness even at worship services, weddings, etc, i have noticed. so i have decided that i will operate in my own orbit and let others operate in theirs and let the chips fall where they may.  wearing a dress in itself is not "dressed-up."  that's silly - there are simple ones, office-y ones, cocktail dresses, formals, etc - something for any level of dressing.  some women appear to wear pants always - their choice.  if others prefer to wear a dress -  their choice.  let's not lose that!

My work dress code is business casual.  My version on business casual is very different than most of my coworkers.  I'm often asked why I'm dressed up when I'm wearing slacks and a blouse.
