Let us for a moment take celebrities out of the discussion. Can we agree respect one another. There is no reason to allow difference of opinion to show lack of respect. Gratitude to live in a country issues are openly shared and discussion happens. Secrets help no one. Most of all the victims. Years ago Alex B behavior towards his own child spoke to his character. He has no credibility imo.

@Sweet_Serenity  Oooh. You are so right. I forgot exactly what was said, but remember it made the hair stand up on the back of my neck.

I don't appreciate being lectured by the Hollywood elite 😡. The award  shows should be about the awards and not political opinions throughout!  I never wAt h them anymore .  Yes, they do have as much right to an opinion as anyone else,  but vine on they just make sure they voice it where they can get the biggest audience!  Never heard a beep before this past year 😉😏uh I wonder why??!!

As far as A.  Baldwin is concerened  the man is a raging lunatic and a big Jerk!!!  Always has been .  He really needs to go to anger management therapy!! Has anyone ever seen The video's of him yelling at a women reporter ?!    stick to acting why don't you ,  even though dont remember him being in any movie lately😼

@Kitty Galore, the Oscar award ceremony has always included political or social commentary. As to your "uh, I wonder why??!!",  I wonder whether some who are now so indignant about any political or social commentary would be so vocal if those commentaries were ones with which they agreed.

@suzyQ3  Yes. I’m offended by anyone who uses their position to state their personal and political opinions...whether or not I agree with them.

@Caaareful Shopper

Will narrow it down to the thread title of Mr A. Baldwin, not to be confused with Mr. S. Baldwin. Gotta admit I watch the show Match Game, which he hosts. I like the show, he just happens to be a small part of it.

All he does is read the teleprompter, which to me makes him a very small part of the show. He even reads his attempts at "off the cuff" funnies?  There is is known to have the "skinny mic", he even mentions it.

He makes it easy to dislike him and if the show he hosts becomes more his opinions than what the producers want, I will take your suggestion, and no longer DVR the show.  I connect with some that don't mince words, but separate that connection depending on how it is delivered, and to whom.

Not my opinions, but my facts about what I think of this specific hypocrite. This thread to me now is "read only". My "got'cha" is the way I speak.

ITA @suzyQ3.

I can also 100% guarantee that any discussion that involved disagreement with a person stating an opposite viewpoint would be gone in a nanosecond.

@Ms tyrion2 @suzyQ3 Absolutely.

@Shanus

Regarding award shows. The TV ratings show how many are like you and myself. Once the minority grows to a specific number, I can see them not being telecast  on any big sized network.

The more the celebs give their opinions on shows most watch for entertainment, the sooner they will revert to the past, if radio will even broadcast them.

Since how is it new that Award Shows haven't always been full of political and social commentary? People just have more venues to watch. I highly doubt the lower ratings have much to do with Hollywood's opinions on anything.

@hckynut  Yes. The state beauty pageants and regional ones were always on the main channels when I was growing up and until maybe 10 yrs. ago. The channels lost their sponsors when ratings fell and now if broadcast at all, they’re on an obscure station and not publicized.

@Trinity11  are: lower ratings. IMO when award shows featured Marilyn Monroe, Liz Taylor, etc. the atmosphere was very different. We were more interested in the awards themselves and seeing the dresses and jewels that the stars actually purchased and owned. Today gowns and diamonds are given to them for publicity. Hence the first interview question: “Who are you wearing?” Who cares if it’s just borrowed for a few hours.

We are all entitled to our own opinions but not our own facts!! These words we’re spoken by former Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan.

If think all Hollywood stars are nuts.  They live in a bubble and think rules don't apply to them.  They are a bunch of overpaid people that do nothing to change the world.  Policemen, firefighters, doctors and nurses should be making the kind of money these clowns make because they actually save lives.  These bozo's act like their jobs are so taxing and their lives are so difficult.   I could care less what they feel or what their opinions are.  I agree, Alex Baldwin is a big mouth a**.

@Jinlei

???  How would you know that?   How would you know they "do nothing to change the world"?  A LOT of people in the entertainment industry contribute to  important causes ....  whether or not they say anything about it.

If they talk about or promote important causes, someone calls them a blowhard, and if they say nothing, people (like you) assume they do absolutely nothing.

Just like all the rest of us, some of us talk about favorite causes, and some people don't talk about them.   So what?
