Aldi's is good for pantry staples/basic items.  Their weekly meat specials are usually very good.  What they excel at are their Weekly Specials which feature all sorts of seasonal things (like right now mostly outdoor/garden centric) but I have a lot of their small appliances, clothing and kitchen gear and am very satisfied with all of my purchases.  If not, save the receipt as they have a no hassel return policy.

And their Mango Habanero salsa cannot be beat.

I love Trader Joe's and used to shop there all the time but they are just not convenient to me since I moved.  It is a great store with a mind boggling array of yummy things in the space they are contained in that is for sure.  I do miss them at times but Aldi also does a good job especially at their price points.

How are the brioche hamburger buns different from regular buns? I've seen you mention these before. I'm intrigued and want to give them a try. Also, do they freeze well?

Theo Albrecht owned  the Trader Joe's specialty grocery store chain in the US. His brother Karl Albrecht owned the Aldi Süd discount supermarket chain.   Aldi Süd operates theAldi groceries in the United States. Aldi and Trader Joe's, while owned by the brothers, have separate and distinct ownership and operations.

I shop in both but I like Trader Joe's more.

Brioche burger buns are a small luxury that Aldi's "allows" its customers.  I haven't had them but brioche is said to be richer than ordinary bread - more butter and eggs.  And Aldi's brioche comes right from the experts - a French company.

I love their fresh salmon. The meat is fine, it looks odd in the vac pak - but the stew meat is so much better than the the supermarket - unless of course you have a favorite butcher so have at it.

The produce is great, they have come a long way. Blackberries, blueberries, i get my rainbow peppers and asparagus.

take and Bake breads, cheese assortments, specialty Pasta Sauces.

The store I go to is small and they sell out fast. Shoppers line up on Wednesday mornings for the meat specials.

of course there are a few duds.  the Greek yogurt is not a dupe for ******e.      did not care for the 1/2 turkey breast in vac-pak.

We bought the brioche burger buns a while ago when they were on sale and were like huh? what's all the hype about.

They were good but not gee, I need all my burgers on a brioche bun type of good.

@goldensrbest  Aldi's does have a wonderful produce dept.  I use to shop Aldi's years ago when I was unemployed but I found that when other local groceries have sales on produce, their prices are better than Aldi's.  I change off my shopping.  I go to Target, Walmart and Jewel depending on my mood or what I need.

@lil spot they are delicious.  They're a nice size but don't overwhelm the hamburger patty.  To be honest, I have never frozen them because I eat them so fast (I sometimes will have one as a dinner roll).  @RespectLife I think you've frozen them, they do well in the freezer yes?

Thanks for the reply. I'm heading over to Aldi's after work tomorrow to look at some plants. If they have these I will pick me some up. I do love a good bread.

@Sunnycorle    Aldo’s Winking Owl white Zinfandel wine is as good as those 3 x the price. It’s under $5.

I shop at Aldi for snacks and some speciality and seasonal items, it's not my main store for the bulk of my groceries.  I prefer Publix or Winn Dixie for meat and produce.  I agree that Aldi toilet paper, paper towels and cleaning products should be avoided with exception of paper plates and plastic cutlery which is great price and quality.

Here are some things I buy repeatedly and love:

7up Cake

Triple Chocolate Creme Cake

Chocolate candy bars from Germany

Knockoff Girl Scout Cookies especially the Peanut Butter filled ones, $1.45

Pizzelles, I like the Anise flavored ones

Pain Au Chocolate, individually wrapped and really good after warmed in oven for minute or two, freeze well

Bricohe Buns and Brioche Choc Chip Loaf

Anthing from Germany during German Week

PAM cooking spray knockoff, $1.50

Spinach and Ricotta Struedel, frozen

Christmas Stollen and all Christmas cookies and treats

Kitchen Sink Cookies, bakery section with cakes listed above

I've had good look with kitchen gadgets at great prices and their small appliances (food prcessors, etc.) come with 3 year guarantee
