I can still be impressed with material things. It's just harder and few and far between.  This was my first car.  A 1959 (I think) VW Karmaan Ghia.  It was the closest model dad could find in the states that was like the one he had in Germany when he met mom.  I take that back.  It wasn't my first car.  It was the one I learned to drive in.  One week before my 16th birthday, a feed truck ran me off the road and I rolled it several times Smiley Sad  That car was so much fun to drive!  Poor dad.  Ours wasn't a convertible.

My bestie from first grade until she passed in 2006 owned a Karmaan Ghia, and I believe it was the first car she purchased.  She had one her parents gave her for high school garduation, and a Mercedes whens he was married, but she divorced him.  Then she had a KG,that she purchased. An attorney, she worked for the DOJ. That almost makes me sad because the car "looks like her."  She had been living in Germany (may have purchased it there).  She had it in November 1970 when she came to visit after she had been living abroad, had divorced her husband and had bought this car for self. She died of lung cancer, Florida.

Aw, what sweet memories you have of your friend and her cars @Nonametoday   The one I drove (and wrecked) was this color too but had a white hard top.  It's probably what saved my life since I wasn't wearing my seatbelt Smiley Sad

Yes, I mentioned that she had that car and after that, she never drove anything but Mercedes and complained about the service department charging her so much for "checkups."  Yet, she continued to drive Mercedes and wore pretty clothes. She was a very small person, probably a 2-3 when we were in college and maybe a 5-7 when she passed.  She was always the "best dressed" in the room.  THANKS for evoking the memories.  Some days it is good to think about those wonderful people from the past albeit sad; it's a double-edge sword to know they are gone but to have the sweet memories.

Y'all probably don't want to hear about my first car, a Buick Wildcat with a bashed in back quarter panel.

Here is a Buick Wildcat concept car (2yrs ago).  It may be reality by now.  Supercar Blondie has a YT channel where she showcases luxury cars.

@monicakmThink more like this one in gold with matching top.  Age it about 7 years and bash in the back quarter panel.  This was the family car until a drunk lady ran a red light and hit it.  Almost a land yacht IMO.

Hey, that didn't sound very appropriate. Yes I did live in the same house with the guy with the phone.  It was an off campus boarding house for college students. Three girls and eight guys.

That sounds like fun.  Did you guys throw parties or go to parties together?
