It must have been an expensive phone. When I was a kid I never saw any cars with that phone.

I had a friend with one of those c.1965.  He also had a yacht and compared to today's yachts, it was so antiquated but at the time was really a big deal.  Time changes and so do luxuries.

Police cars had phones in the 1930's.  They were radiotelephones.  First one way and then later in the 1930's two way.

car - cellular phones - existed in the early '70s.  the cell towers were antenna poles,  by the shoulders of highways.  we being non geeks often wondered what these poles were.  they were about 10ft in height and looked like a tall fishing pole.

we were adventurous kids and hitch-hiked a lot.  one man who gave use a ride had a corded push button phone in his car.

picture phones were introduced by Bell Labs in '64.   they were too costly at the time to generate interest.

@foxywoods

I lived in an off campus college house with a guy who had a cell phone.  This was 1977. The phone was huge and was kept in a bag. Silly me, I thought that was the beginning of car phones. He was from Houston
