Light bulb moment: Fly during school sessions.....September, etc. Looking back, (Maybe the late 70's-80's or so) I can honestly say that I don't recall any young children/babies on any of my flights. I/we used to travel during Fall months, most of the time, for the nice, not too warm, weather. Only child I encountered was a trip to Italy, and the youngster had been taken out of school to visit Italy and travel. Very well mannered young man. Did all of his homework, etc. Sat in the seat in front of me. September, I recall.

Back in the 70's and 80's, most children were in school. With the popularity of home schooling, any time you travel there are children.

School age children are generally not a problem. It's the poor babies with popping ears, or toddlers that can't sit still.

Yes, abbey, very true. Feel sorry for newborns' delicate ears. Even driving upward in high altitude destinations. Poor very young youngsters are at the mercy of adults. Same with pets.

I just don't know how the toddlers manage all of the commotion even before the flights. Takes a lot of patience.

Life is stressful for the very young ones now-a-days. In and out of the car, all day and night long. Well, around here, for sure. The lucky ones are the ones whose grandparents are giving them a bit of peace and quiet, strolling them around every day.........pointing to 'this and that'. Warms my heart..........

Adults only everything works... and yes, it's about choice.

And it does bear repeating. If you don't have kids or are paying someone to watch yours, why put up with someone else's...?

One time I flew from Seattle to London beside a brother and sister, 12 and 15. Since I taught 9th graders, I was delighted to have them next to me. The boy was a little squirrelly, but they were kind of fun, and it gave me a job during the flight: make them feel comfortable so that by the time their father met them in London, they would be all set for a wonderful summer with him. Some of the passengers thought the boy was hyper and said I was very patient with him, but I love working with adolescents and will take them over screeching young ones or obnoxious adults any time.

That's a fun age, I would have enjoyed them too.
