Exactly how much money are you "taking elsewhere"?

Re: ADA Compliance Rant a head

I am surprised at the need to "explain" why it is absolutely unnecessary to offer a simple accommodation to get people from the parking lot to the outside theatre site - particularly when the venue, itself, warns people that the ground is uneven and potentially unsafe.

All this emphasis on historic buildings being exempt etc. (which has no relevance to this particular issue) and the need to defend the theatre company for choosing this venue (and agreeing with the venue that it is absolutely not their concern whatsoever that it may be inaccessible) is sad.

Thank you to those who replied in kind, and as far as the ones bashing me just for being me. I am sorry that people take the opportunity to belittle others who are just trying to live their best life

Re: ADA Compliance Rant a head

If a building went up before ADA, they do not have to comply but if renovations are done to a building, then accommodations must be included. If a building is a landmark or of historic value, it is exempt

I don’t know the situation but in our area, the local theater group only rents the space for the time of rehearsals & the production itself. They could find another venue if a large number of people are affected. But, they really have no control over the site. Being, non profit, local theaters don’t have large budgets & probably could not afford golf carts & staff to operate them & insurance. It would be up to the venue to make the accommodations not the theater group.

As I’ve aged, I know my limitations & if I see warnings about accessibility, I just don’t go there.

Re: ADA Compliance Rant a head

The issue is with the venue.  If the performance company is only renting the space they are not responsible for anything in the building and they are correct when they say they cannot help you.   Also, there are exemptions for some kinds of buildings so you should probably talk with someone in that town/city to see if that particular building falls into the exempt category.  It dosen't hurt to ask.  😊

I find that response to you extremely offensive.  Is the point supposed to be that only those spending a lot of money are entitled to question this situation? or be reasonably accommodated?
