It's a huge day for drinking in the USA. Bars have been opened since 7:00 a.m. serving green beer. Many cities have huge St. Patrick's Day parades. I know Cleveland does. From the parade, people go to bars and party some more.
Chinese New Year isn't celebrated at all in my area. I can't think of any other day that is celebrated like today is.

I'm Irish and I love St. Patrick's Day! And why would anyone object to a day of fun and celebration. Life's GOOD! Celebrate anything and everything!
There are parades here with throws (heads of cabbage). When we lived in a North Eastern state there was free green beer and corned beef & cabbage for everyone in town. Lots of fun for everyone.

I'm part Irish the Catholic side of me enjoys the music and celebration and the colcannon the Jewish side of me enjoys the corned beef so its easier to just go along say a blessing and give thanks.

Isn't green the traditional color for Catholics and Orange for Protestants? The landowners were usually Protestants.

I'm not Irish (German - English here) but I have my green on in honor of my Irish friends, including those who post on the forums. Happy St. Patrick's Day to all those who celebrate it. We could use a lot more celebrations in the world in which we live today.

My Italian grandmother never got over the fact that her daughter married an Irishman. So in honor of my two half Irish, half Italian cousins, (and to all of you who come by this day honestly) salut and pass the beer!

Hmmm -- no offers except for the usual one from CVS, but that's not for St. Pat's.
It doesn't matter to me. Right at the moment, I can't even figure out what I'd buy at CVS this week to take advantage of their 20% offer, but I have through Sunday to think about it.

I'm Irish, so I'm going to answer this based on my feeling about Cinco de Mayo (a Mexican holiday), Oktoberfest (a German tradition) and Mardi Gras/Fat/Shrove Tuesday (a celebration before the Catholic tradition of Lent).
It's a reason for the people of the culture to celebrate that culture and an excuse for everyone else to celebrate.. and drink. People enjoy celebrating and having fun. More and more non-Christians are celebrating Christmas these days because it's fun. People wanting to have fun shouldn't really need any explanation.
Anyone who pinched you was not celebrating being Irish or St. Patrick's Day, they were enjoying what they saw as a free pass to being a jerk.
I don't celebrate Cinco de Mayo or Mardigras, but I don't mind that plenty of other people do.

I celebrate my 7% Irish heritage today! My husband is Italian heritage and celebrates the day more enthusiastically than me! It is just about fun. I live in the NY metro area and there are many ethnic celebrations....German Day parade, West Indian Day Parade, Puerto Rican Day etc. In Rockland NY, Bastile Day is celebrated. In my town the Columbus Day Parade is led by Italians and we have 2 Greek Festivals in surrounding Towns....I think St Patrick's Day came about when there were a large number of Irish immigrants in NYC and the parade was born. It depends where you are in the Country as to what you celebrate.
