So it would "help" the post office - which is having trouble delivering all its mail now - to give it more mail to deliver.   Um right.

My postal carrier told me that all those grocery ads and junk mail may not seem important, but what they pay for delivery is significant, and helps to keep postage rates in check.   Hey, all prices rise eventually, but it was something I hadn't previously considered.

Re: A Small way to help the Post Office

I purchased a couple of extra books of stamps and ordered some cards to send to people.  I send them mostly to senior women in our church that are at home but not able to have visitors like before the pandemic hit.  So I send weekly cards to them.

These 2 women are very hard of hearing so it is difficult to speak over the phone and neither one ha a cell phone, so forget texting.  lol  So the cards are a way to hopefully bring a bright spot in their day and purchasing the stamps helps the post office.

I know people do this but sending the envelope back empty will not stop you from receiving mail from that company.

Better to send it back with a request to be removed from their mailing list.

Somebody here posted a way to get rid of unsolicited mail a long time ago-maybe somebody else knows.

catalogchoice.org

i used it years ago , it was a project but it's worth it.

and get very little mail

never sign up for anything with a phone # or fill in forms for free stuff etc.

@jackthebear   Thank you!  I knew somebody would have some info.

I believe you can request that the post office not deliver "junk mail"; all those annoying flyers that you just cannot get rid of.

I think somewhere in time we did if I remember correctly because we never receive that type either anymore.

you might be able to stop the delivery, but it's better not have the useless mail generated in the first place

there is also DMA.org that has info on how to stop junk mail as well

also to stop mail for dead people too

after my Mother died I went on a "warpath" eliminating catalogs, charities etc,

@jackthebearThank you again!

Totally agree about not generating in the first place.

I don't care about the junk mail, but sure wish I had a fireplace for all the paper!   I recycle it.

What I want to know is how do I reduce all the d@$%& junk emails I get!    Anybody have any tricks for that?

@Tinkrbl44   I know you said you do not have a fireplace but a fireplace is the last place to dispose of paper!

And while not "junk mail" never burn cardboard and styrofoam, either or anything else that isn't a log.

Whoops ... I do know that.  I meant that it might be used as a starter for a  log.   Sorry I wasn't clear.

Give the post office more work to do or save the planet.

Seems totally ridiculous to me.  Sending back all those millions of empty envelopes just creates more mail to be processed.  Since USPS is currently having problems getting mail sorted and delivered, all those empty envelopes just creates more work.  More wasted work.  All those empty envelopes are just slowing down our mail delivery.

Please think.  Don't flood our postal service with empty envelopes.
