A Second Look at Richard Sherman

I never heard of this West Coast guy until I heard his interview after the championship game....NOT a great first impression.

But I heard his press conference on ESPN, what a thoughtful, intelligent man (PLUS a fantastic player).

I agree with him....THUG is a code word that needs to be used very, very carefully - not applicable for Richard Sherman.

I'm glad he spoke up...he was very insightful and very well spoken.

I agree with him, also, on the newly prevalent use of thug.

Re: A Second Look at Richard Sherman

And did you see the whole tape of the incident? He had a microphone on, went to Crabtree, gave him a pat on the rear end, extended his hand and said "great game", after which that jerk Crabtree shoved him by the face mask.

I'm a huge Richard Sherman fan, as are tons of others. He is well known for his good works, both locally and in his home town and is extremely well liked by his team and the public.

He got great grades at high school and went to Stanford (and not just on a jock scholarship, either). When he's not over emotional, he's really very lucid and well-spoken.

"Thug" has been a dog whistle word since (or before) the Zimmerman trial.

Sherman's enthusiasm is appealing. He'll rise above this incident. The word thug was used to describe him on tv that day something like 625 timesSmiley Sad

I'm glad I got a chance to hear him off the field.

I agree that thug is a dog whistle...

And as Richard said so well, "thug" is now seemingly used as a substitute for the *n* word. Shameful. He's no more a thug than my 8 year old grandson.

Good point, clover, regarding Z's trial.

Makes you wonder why the WHOLE incident wasn't reported on, I say media hype for one.
