My friends mother in law (her sons grandma) has been scammed. My friends son travels all over the world and his family lives all over the USA. So of course he uses the net as in email, skype (the list goes on) to stay in touch with family.
The hacker hacked my friends sons email and got my friends sons grandmas phone number IN AN EMAIL of his and called the grandma and told her that her grandsons in jail in another country, and she has to send money to get him out.
She thought it to be true because he travels all over the world and he is also a "hiker" so she thought he was picked up hiking over a border or something. She sent the money. (almost 1,000 dollars!). The son reported it and everything is being investigated.
I know most people know this, but be careful online and please tell elderly people to NEVER send money, and if approached by phone or email hang up or do not reply to emails and report it to family members and authorties immediately.
