My Italian grandfather came to America when he was 5 with his mom...and became a US citizen.

He went back to choose a bride from the town he was from. He stayed a year, married my grandmother and brought her back to America.

MANY others have done the same.

Justr because ONE case turned out to be horrible - is no reason to deny thousands of others.

People freaked out over Ebola last year and wanted all travel from Africa to cease.

Same overreaction re: marriage visas too.

BTW - my ex husband got his permanent residency status by marrying me. He was (and still is) Canadian.

if i had not brought MY FIANCE  here on a fiance visa i would not have my three beautiful children.......

besides, anyone can get married in another country and then bring their wife/husband here once they go through the immigration process.......

Me too!!! Just one son though. Also, it's not easy...you have to prove your relationship is legit.

That was then and this is now, two extremely different times with extremely different dangers.

My own Mother was a legal immigrant, met my Father overseas during WWII and she came to this country (after waiting over a year to be processed!) to marry him. She had to register EVERY SINGLE YEAR IN JANUARY so the government could keep track of her.  If she didn't....... she would have been deported.  Period.  She never let that happen of course.

The government CAN keep track of immigrants.  For the government to say it's impossible is to simply say it's become a free for all.  It CAN be done.  It was done and it needs to be done again and done well.  If not, this country is going to see horror it's never seen before.  We are on the cusp.

I'm pro-legal immigration.  Of course I am.... I am a product of it.

I don't think times are all that different.

Immigrants have always been feared and discriminated against - whether Eye-talians (dirty), or Irish ( drunk Mics) or Germans (Hitler's people). Each wave has faced the same issues.
