I can't believe he just p**ped in bed every day, probably multiple times a day. He seemed to think nothing of it either. Can you just imagine the stink in that apartment? I didn't even see any room deodorizer.
I bet his nasty oozing crusty legs didn't help with the fragrance of the place either........ Blech

One of the female patients one time sat on a toilet and the seat broke and they had to call the Fire Dept. men to come in and lift her off the toilet. She was crying and scared to death she was going to fall. Even Dr. Now came running over and ordered them to call for help. They needed l/2 dozen strong men to get her off the toilet.
Wouldn't everybody just give up food if that ever happened to you....

I think it was also in TX & the bariatric surgeons were a father & son & the father was from South Africa. I really enjoyed that show & liked both the drs. a lot.
@aubnwa01 I remember that show and it did air one season on TLC:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Medicine
'Big Medicine' featured Dr. Garth Davis & his father...and yes, they're in Houston, as well.
Dr. Garth Davis is a H.U.G.E. advocate in the Plant-Based world!
Years ago, he was eating the same diet (pause for effect)
he was prescribing to his bariatric patients...and as expected (no surprise on a low carb diet), he was gaining weight! As an author, he even wrote a low carb book about how to eat after surgery. It wasn't working.
Doctor, Heal Thyself....and he did. He was on the same path as his patients...and then he adopted a plant based diet & got healthy!
He began a low fat whole foods plant based diet, lost weight, and shared his learnings of the dangers of too much protein in our diets in his book, 'Proteinholic'. They still have a weight loss clinic & perform surgery, but the focus has changed to preventative medicine. He counsels his patients, pre/post, about this WOE for long-term success. He wholeheartedly believes in preventing/curing illnesses like heart disease & diabetes with just a change in the correct diet/lifestyle alone.
I watch these shows from time to time...and it drives me nuts when Dr. Now talks about 'eeeeat moooore prooooteeeein'.
No! Cut out the fat/protein & eat more carbohydrates! Duh.
No wonder there's a self-proclaimed small success rate to bariatric surgery!
Dr. Garth got it right. Low fat whole foods plant based for the win!
Plus he's cute as a button!

Kachina624 wrote:@mtc I remember that show on Brookhaven. It was the last time I saw Richard Simmons as he made a visit there to one of the patient. I think the public has the same fascination with these obese folks as they do with a freak show. These peoples' lives are so far out of the realm of the ordinary, we can't take our eyes off them.
I thought I remembered Richard Simmons appearing on the show, but I just couldn't trust my memory. Thanks for the jolt. ![]()
Didn't he have a guy who lost some 1,000 pounds and then he gained it all back again. Then, IIRC, he died at some point. I can still see a picture of this guy, standing there, at his lowest weight. Dark hair, mustache. Or I'm an idiot because my memory mixes things up now. hehe

Thanks for that info, Sidsmom. NOW, I remember 'Big Medicine'. I didn't recall it, yesterday, just from the name.

@chickenbuttI think that was Michael Hebranko. He died just a few year ago IIRC......

Oh yes! The name sounds familiar. That poor guy sure worked hard and then it all went bad. That could be him. The name sure is familiar.

This season's patients seem to be less motivated and more defiant than those previous of seasons.
James was looking for a mother and found it in that girlfriend. The girlfriend was looking for someone to distract her from her abusive husband andwith her children. She's so ready to bail but stays out of guilt. The abandonment and loss of his mother is the crux of his issue.
The sight of him caused his father's stroke.

My post disappearred.
A few seasons ago, there was a patient of Dr. Now's that didn't adhere to the diet after her weight loss surgery and she died. She was in denial that she was over eating.

@fourpaws56 This is a very self centered way of looking at low income people on welfare.
