How does someone gain 158 pounds in 2 months?
He really made me angry this guy-would not stop eating...also where do they get the money for their housing and all that take out food?
His girlfriend was a really bad enabler.

I think they should all be in therapy for at least 6 months before they are considered for weight loss surgery....
I watch this show and I would guess that less than half of the people on this show are able to maintain a healthy lifestyle and weight.

I feel so sad for the Father. He mortgaged his home so James could go to Houston with a Medical team. And then James didn't follow the program.

Keeping daughter out of school to care for him-so selfish. He's controlling the entire family- they allow this.
If he's yelling and angry for junk food walk out and close the door.
I have a feeling we are all paying for his life style-as taxpayers.

iMW - I think you are right. I have a feeling we are all paying for his life style-as taxpayers."
On another episode the Doctor asked the family, and there were at least 4 family members in the office, if anyone worked. They all said no. And the Doctor then said something to the effect - so this has become your job to feed the person that was 600 pounds.

This was a sad, sad story. I didn't see the beginning of the program but I just couldn't understand any of these people. This guy, especially. How do you gain so much weight in two months and deny that you ate so much? And the woman lied for him as well. They are all sick and obese. Mental illness. This man couldn't get out of bed!
No way in the world would I enable this mean spirited whiner. I wish, at the end of the story, they had let us know what happened to him. He probably died. Now those he left behind will feel guilty for years.
As someone said....who pays for this stuff? People are struggling for healthcare and people like this waste this gift. I know I sound mean but Dr. Now should have cut him off long before he did.

@catlover I've been watching this show for a couple of years. Yes, it is so maddening. What I have come to believe is that the people think that by having surgery they will magically lose the weight.. They don't realize that they will still have cravings and issues. At the beginning of the shows it says that only about 5% of the people will be successful.

I thought it was very sad....so sad to see him in such denial. People stay in denial about many things (alcoholism, drug abuse, over-eating, bad marriages, abuse of children, over-spending---to name a few) and, yes, we all pay. What is that phrase about "casting the first stone?" My heart goes out to James.

I watched this and I too did not understand the 158 weight gain that I reordered it ,the supersize airing because the add extra details, in order to see if I understood why after all his father sacrificed, the COST of move, medical EMS, Dr Now accepting him as patient, the extra weight gain. I was hoping the bed scale was in fact wrong...but NO.
Unbelievable, and when Dr Now went off in anger, they still did not get it!!
I watch My 600lb life, for I like to see these people come up and suceed.
And I too wonder, ""how do they afford not only medical needs, but the move from one house to another" I'm guessing that maybe the Show takes on the expenses when the patient signs there contract to do the show?????
Boy....I've suffer mental illness most of my life, and I can't get the intense support and help I need.......unbelievable
I guess to know if James ever gets it we will have to wait for the "Where are they now"
Blessings to All

I also watch this TV show.
I had Bariatric surgery last June, the Dr. Group I went to required many tests including a comeplete heart health workup, shrink evaluation, chest x-ray,sleep study, blood work, and counseling with a dietician. Lots of bloodwork following to make your Vitamin and Mineral levels are up, They have been very thorough in guiding me in the right direction.
But like we saw in these shows, these people have to want it more than the Food.
The success stories are very hopeful.
