You could have gotten the virus anywhere.  You only have to be in the same area such as a living room, church sanctuary, doctors office, post office (just to name a very few) to be infected, same aisle in grocery and other stores or  from money.  There are thousands of ways the virus can get from one host to the other.  IMO 6 ft is moot.

I got the flu a couple of years ago and was not around anyone in our familar places that was sick.  So I got it somewhere unknown.

The best caution is to wash hands, dont go where there are lots of people.  Go only when necessary.  Once you get to your car, use hand sanitizer before getting your car keys out.  Load groceries, use hand cleaner again before getting into your car.

Hope this makes some sense.

I have had this same thing happen quite a few times and yes, it’s always a man. Like you, I wondered if they were hoping to see a PIN number or something.  I use a credit card to pay, so they’re out of luck. Probably just  clueless, rude people.

I would suspect they have a scanner and are trying to steal personal info.

Or...they've already scanned your info and now need to see your PIN.

People get their card out and have it in their hand, ready for the checkout. I see them holding that card in their hand several minutes.

My cards are in a RFID case, and I

don't open the case until it's time to scan or insert it into the card reader.  Then it goes right back into my RFID and snap shut. They're unprotected for the shortest time possible.
