6 Ft. Boa In Kansas Man's Couch.

A guy in Rose Hill, Kansas thought his keys might have fallen in a couch cushion.  He found a 6ft. boa inside the pull out couch.  Fireman removed the creepy crawler.

They think someone in the neighborhood might have had had it as a pet and it got loose.  It might have been in the couch for weeks.

I would burn the couch, no I would move.  I am not afraid of your basic garter snake and have picked them up and moved them.  Don't want any snake in my hosue.

Imagine knowing you napped or watched TV on that couch with that inside it.  Yikes!

Good grief!  I'd be looking for the magical portal, that allowed a six foot snake access to my house interior.

Re: 6 Ft. Boa In Kansas Man's Couch.

I had a copperhead come into my house via the garage/kitchen door once and I stayed in a motel until it was found.  I am not living with a snake if I can help it. I have heard lots of stories of people in the south having snakes in their houses, in their cookware, mostly in their sofas (I guess it is warm there).  I have a horror of taking a nap on a sofa since I heard stories about that.  Kansas is not warm enough for snakes. I wish the government would ban the entry of exotic snakes into this country.

But it could be worse----

How about stories where people found a snake IN THEIR TOILET!!!

When young Isac Mcfadden of Abilene, Texas, got up to use the bathroom recently, he found an unexpected surprise in the toilet--a snake!!!

Florida police said a 52-year-old Coral Springs man had gone to the bathroom early Sunday morning and, when he lifted the toilet seat, a four-foot snake “rose up and bit him,” the Sun Sentinel reported.

A Houston area viewer shared a startling video of a guest found in an Airbnb's bathroom toilet.---a snake!

Re: 6 Ft. Boa In Kansas Man's Couch.

Years ago the same thing happened in our apartment complex, when a neighbor had a 10 foot boa (without anyone's knowledge, including management) and it escaped when the resident fell asleep on the couch with his patio door open.

Thank god he reported it even though he knew he would be evicted and the whole neighborhood was in a panic.

No letting kids or small animals outside, no going out after dark and the police and DNR issued almost constant warnings about him being on the loose on every type of media possible.

It was a very scary time and after a week on the loose, he was finally captured in the neighborhood behind us.

The neighbor was evicted and I stopped carrying my gun.

@Nonametoday  that is not true.  In fact, in Kansas, snakes are protected by state law.

Additionally:  Not many people associate Kansas with Kansas snakes. That would be a mistake. Because it is situated in the center of the United States, Kansas ranks up at the top of the snake diversity list with approximately forty different snake species.  (excerpt from:  https://greennature.com/kansas-snakes/ )

Oh, @Spurt , you just gave me a memory.  As a youth, I spent some time in a remote log cabin in KY, without plumbing. It was a trip to the outhouse when necessary.

One morning, I opened the door and started to step in, and there was the biggest snake I had ever seen staring at me.  One of mountain kin, who had seen me running away started laughing, while yelling "he's friendly."  Yeah, right!

After seeing the pics you've shared, I know that I will forever need to take a safe little peek inside the commode, before fully lifting that lid. I'm shocked they can get into the plumbing system.

Re: 6 Ft. Boa In Kansas Man's Couch.

Years ago a friend of my DH was cutting hay and saw a snake.  He got off the tractor and chased it.  It was just a black snake, but it was 7 ft. long.  Guy was crazy. I don't care if it wasn't poisonous, that's nuts.  He held it up and it coiled around his arm.

Luckily, for living in the country I have seen very few snakes in 50 years.

Re: 6 Ft. Boa In Kansas Man's Couch.

I have a snake story about my sister-in-law who (for the sake of decorum) will say she has lived in a gold fish bowl growing up and with her husband.  She came home from shopping one day and saw what appeared to be a lot of black rick-rack on her white bedspread.  She felt that one of her daughters had perhaps been doing a school project using black rick-rack.  When she began undressing, she saw the rick-rack moving.  She soon realized, her bed was full of baby snakes.  She followed the trail and they were coming from her shower in adjacent bath.  She thought she would pick them up for pets when one struck at her.  She called to her son who was outside playing to come pick them up.  He laughed at her and told her he was not picking them up, that he was leaving to spend the night at a friend's house.  She called her DH who got them up, used something to deter snakes from coming inside their house but she spent the night at the house with her son's friend and his mother.   I wish you knew her.  If so, you would laugh so hard, you might wet your pants.  He had a boat and bought one the same color as the old one.  She never noticed it was not the same one.  She commended him on the great paint job.
