Yikes! My dad's company built the visitor's center on top of that mountain. It was the only project his company ever lost money on, and it got finished way behind schedule, due to the severe weather conditions.

I think the high winds were the problem most of the time.

I can't imagine how cold a minus 40 degree temp is. PA was very cold today and we're told the temp can go down to minus 7 tonight with a wind chill factor of minus 33 degrees. It's still very windy here but that should diminish by noon Monday.

We've had a robin in our back yard for the last two weeks and I don't know where he gets his food; the ground is frozen and snow covered. We first saw him in our crabapple trees eating the berries but there are no berries left now. Hey, I'm told robins normally mean spring is on its way; we can only hope. The sooner the better for me.

We had a robin red breast in the back yard the other day. It has to have bee a couple of decades since we've seen one here. I've worried they were disappearing. We have a huge crabapple tree there also which is incredibly beautiful when it blooms.

I'm in the midwest. We are going to be hoovering around -20 at night through Friday. The first couple days of it are a shock to the system, but ya kinda get used to it after a while. I would like a little snow, but it typically doesn't snow when it's this cold.

We're still in the single digits, but will be going up to the teens for the next few days. It looks like the winds have died down, and that the wind chill warnings are gone for us. I don't see them now.

Noel, I haven't seen any robins, but they are migratory birds here in WI. They start to show up around March, and if I am not mistaken, they usually stay around here until October. They are plentiful here, when they arrive. They build lots of nests here, and you can usually hear them because they like to sing, and their babies are very chirpy when they start to grow. Smile

I'm so glad to know they're doing well there. We used to get quite a few hummingbirds, too, but no longer.

It's in the low teens here with a wind chill of -2. When we let our dog it was bitterly cold and the wind gusts are just awful. We had a large tree branch fall and narrowly miss our garage roof. Scary !

Saranac Lake is in the Adirondacks.

My friend lives in Old Forge NY - the lowest it's been this month is minus 22 - BEFORE the wind chill is factored in!

In Buffalo right now it's -4 with a windchill of -21!!!

The dog wasn't liking his outing at 6AM....he acted like his paws were on fire - even though salt doesn't work at those temps.

Saranac Lake was the home of Dr. Trudeau's tuberculosis sanitarium as was featured on The American Experience, well worth seeing. Mt. Washington is the tallest peak in the Northeast at over 6,000 feet, exceedingly windy, and the breathtaking highlight of the scenic Kancamagus Highway of New Hampshire.

Do you have booties for him, terrier? I keep seeing a big push for getting foot coverings for dogs, there's a lot of foot damage being done to them by the cold and snow. Irreversible damage can be done.

Poor little guys {#emotions_dlg.sad}
