The Detroit man whose story of walking 21 miles to and from work daily spurred hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations and a new car reportedly has been moved to a new location out of concern for his safety.

James Robertson, a factory worker from Detroit, told the Detroit Free Press that he wanted to move after crime-prevention specialists from the Detroit Police Department offered him a temporary living space earlier this week.

One factor in Robertson's move were two reported recent attacks on people who'd come into money in the area, including an example of a man, 86, who was killed reportedly after winning $20,000 in the lottery, police told the Free Press.

“We had a meeting with him [and] he expressed interest that he did not feel safe," Detroit Police Capt. Aric Tosqui told the Free Press.

Robertson moved Tuesday, according to the Free Press, from a home he shared with his girlfriend to an apartment temporarily donated free of cost by an unidentified local businessman. Robertson told the paper he had left his former home and that he was looking for a new permanent residence, likely closer to his factory job in nearby Rochester Hills, Michigan.

Blake Pollock, a local banker who spotted Robertson on his daily walking commute and befriended the man, confirmed to ABC News that Robertson was moving.

“The police were very proactive about it, reached out to him and handled everything,” Pollock said. “It was strictly handled between him and the police.”

I hope he will be safe no matter where he lives. His name is all over the place.

Sounds like the other man had the money on him - Robertson is being advised by that banker and I'm sure the $$ is safe somewhere else.

my DH and i were talking about this because of the recent Powerball payout - we would not even tell anyone that we had tickets! if we had actually one something there is no way we would have let it be known!

If I'm not mistaken the rules of major lottery games include having to have the jackpot winners names published.
