The genetic testing company 23andMe has filed for bankruptcy. If you or someone you know used its product, please consider ASAP deleting your data from its database and closing your account before the Company's assets (i.e., your saliva sample and your genetic data) are sold to heaven knows who. Please read the news stories for more information.

@JanetsGirl I really wonder how much information is already in other hands.
We never used 23andMe or anything like it.
I did see the news about the bankruptcy and to delete one's information.
Times have been changing for so long when it comes to any privacy now.

I decided that these DNA based apps were subject to misuse and never used them. My fear was that the medical establishment complex, enabled by a government that valued business over individuals, would use the info to deny care to persons with certain hereditary tendencies. To my knowledge, it hasn't happened YET.

Thank you for this information.
Although I kind of agree with @Cakers3 that so much is already out there, it doesn't hurt to go in and delete your information with 23andMe to make sure.

It is very likely that this Company and others like it, have already sold their clients personal info over the years. Especially for profit if they were going under, and well before they declared bankruptcy. I read about this years ago and it was not recommended to do, for this and many other reasons. Because of this, I didn't go near any of it.

I just sent my son a text about this but he used Ancestry. It was a gift from his wife.

I'm glad I never did one.

I never trusted any of those sites, 23 & Me or Ancestry, Besides the possibility of Heaven-knows-who getting ahold of your data and physical samples you never know what they can dig up. It's better to let sleeping dogs lie.

I am glad I never used those services. I have watched the show "Long Lost Family" and how they find the adoptive parents/children is by using these services. I guess nothing is confidential anymore.
