Have you all noticed all the different commercials that are just asking us to give $19 a month to save an animal, help pay for children needing surgery, veterans.....etc..... I was always under the impression that I could give what I want to give at any given time.

Between these kinds of commercials and the NutriSystem commercials, think enough is enough....already.

How about you? Do you realize how little of the money donated actually goes to the actual needs????.....most of it goes for salaries, bonuses, advertising, etc.......

You can give just what you want.

I think all the charities do that now, but AB is correct, you can give any amount.

The Lupus Foundation does it, American Heart and the local missions. Some of them are up to asking for a minimum of $40 now.

You can give what you want. It's a suggested amount.

I know I can donate whatever or to whomever I want to...... Just wonder how they have almost all come up with the $19 a month figure?????

Some charities are quite good about the % of money that goes to the cause. You just have to do your research. Getting donors requires advertising of some form.

Psychologically, $19 sounds affordable to most people.

$228 a year might not.

We received a request for money from a specific student from our church to take a mission trip this summer ....it was all spelled out very nicely, down to how to make the check out.

What irked me was the implied $100.00 donation amount they wanted as that is how the mock check was made out. I think they should have left it blank or just printed 'your donation amount goes here'.....Generally that is the amount we send when asked for money for the student ministry, but for some reason this just rubbed me the wrong way.

Like I don't know how to write a check.....that is what it was implying to me. And yes, $100 would be a fantastic amount to receive.

My husband and I noticed that also, and talk about it every time one of those commercials comes on.
