....and now Ms. Bertha Betterthanyou has gone on a bike ride to force the issue. I do not like her. Is it such a big stinkin deal to stay home for 3 weeks?

I know nobody will be harmed from a bike ride, however, this is obviously just to poke the state in the eye. It is a statement to everybody else under quarantine that 'you don't gotta'.

How responsible.

ETA: The issue is that if she should become symptomatic they are going to have to inconvenience every single person she was in contact with and at perhaps great expense to them and to the state to track. All because she can't think of her community first.

I totally agree. This woman has some ego!! And she obviously leads her boyfriend around by the nose.

And it's only about two weeks now.

I don't like her. Watching her ride her bike just disgusted me.

Interesting how we see things differently. I applaud her and respect her intelligence to know her own health status. I believe she is more responsible than most in this regard.

When America becomes a police state where people can be swept away in any kind of seclusion, be very afraid.

Our government simply cannot hold people against their will who are not a danger to anyone nor have broken any law.

Maine Governor Paul LePage said he'll ""abandon the demand for quarantine if she takes a blood test""

Maine's governor indicated today that he would abandon his demand that nurse Kaci Hickox remain under quarantine after treating Ebola patients if she would agree to take a blood test for the lethal virus.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...she's intelligent, she is following science. I bet people thought that about Dr Bowling Alley too, now look where he is and his condition. He was all fine, asymptomatic and carefree too. This woman must need attention badly. Nothing like thumbing her nose at the state and authority.

ETA, meanwhile, our military members are serving a monitored 21 day quarantine after "building tents" for ebola patients. {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes} Pure double standard.

The likelihood of her having Ebola is pretty slim, IMO. I think by now she would have started showing symptoms.

But a 21-day quarantine is what she's supposed to be following. People cannot just decide for themselves what they're going to follow or not follow. I don't think the military has a choice.

As I stated elsewhere, it was routine when I was growing up that homes were quarantined when someone had a communicable disease (and there were many then). Nobody called it a "police state." It was just common sense.

Aren't the military members still "on the job" while being quarantined? They're still in the military and still being paid, so I would think it's part of their job responsibilities, since their responsibilities are dictated by military commanders, not politicians. They're not being threatened and don't have armed guards standing outside their homes, like the people in Connecticut.

Exactly. My older brother came down with Meningitis when he was two years old and my mother was pregnant with me. He was immediately put under quarantine in a hospital bed tent and my parents had to keep my older sister and brother home from school. No whining or complaining it was just done.

That is correct kitty. I think what people get upset about is that it seems to the public that they are being treated differently then the healthcare workers etc. I think this can also be said for Mr. Duncan's family and friends. They were immediately quarantined if I am not mistaken. So much has happened since that poor man died.
