sunny, of course you knew I'd change my opinion of Caroline Ferriday of The Lilac Girls. Have you seen her picture?

@Judaline okay I won't say I told you so lol Yes Caroline was beautiful, wasn't she?

Did you see the photos of Herta? Her story was true. I won't say any more because it would be a spoiler. But here she is:

This was one of the best books I've ever read. I'm so glad you read it!

@sunala That's just about how I thought Herta would look. Whew.  There is a group pic of The Rabbits in later, happier times if you google and if you are interested. I thought it was lacking in the book-could have been in the back after the acknowledgements.

I finished The Girl on the Train a few days ago.  It was amazing - so much suspense, twists and turns.  I'm sure I'll see the movie eventually.  Now I'm reading Dune Road by Jane Green.  All her books are great.  I would describe them as women's fiction and about life, in general.

@Judaline I think I did Google it after I was done reading, but I'll check again. It's a miracle that any of them survived. I really loved this book and it is definitely on my Top 10 of my favorite books of 2016. And to think I wasn't going to read it!

Re: What are you reading? OCTOBER 2016

I just finished Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty and feel the same as many others, disappointed and just finished it to find out what happened at that darned barbeque. Not doing too well with my choices right now, I started STRAIGHT TALKING by Jane Green but don't think it is one of her best, too much bad language and not enough good story. Hope my next choice is better.

@CANDLEQUEEN, stick with "We Need to Talk About Kevin"!  I am amazed at the wisdom in that book, and the heartbreak, and there's that ending.  When the Newtown/Sandy Hook shooting happened my mind went right back to that book.  I was very disappointed in the movie.  Can't wait to learn what you think of the book!

@kitty45, yay for Ove!  Inch by inch that book has become a bestseller purely by word of mouth!

I will stick with it Islandgirl, it actually is starting to get really good. It is very sad and very disturbing how sick this child is. I will definitely post once I have finished it!

@CANDLEQUEEN, just FYI that was me that said that about "Kevin", not @kitty45.  It's very disturbing and Lionel Shriver is incredibly perceptive.  When you finish this one and maybe take a break from the heaviness I have another of her books to recommend that deals with weight among other things.

She's reading "A Man Called Ove" and I'm jealous of anyone reading that book for the first time!

Re: What are you reading? OCTOBER 2016

I've been busy reading late into the night, which was well worth it while reading We Are Unprepared by Meg Little Reilly. It takes place in northern Vermont, about a young married couple who move up there from Brooklyn to start over in a new and exciting way. A series of impending winter superstorms leads the couple to prepare in different ways, breaking them apart. I loved the story and I have to say the book ended in the way I wanted it to. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I am now reading We Could be Beautiful, by Swan Huntley, which pulled me right in. I can't wait to get back to it.

I don't remember if I mentioned that I read Rushing Waters by Danielle Steel. Total waste of time for me.

Sadly, I pulled the bookmark on Underground Airlines by Ben H. Winters. I was very disappointed that I couldn't get into it, as I'd looked forward to his new book. I'd read his Last Policeman series which I enjoyed very much. This book was way too confusing for me to try to get into.
